  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Best skin tones

The rendering of skin and skintone in digital and filmed mediums depends much more on lighting and makeup and research into these two things, than it does on a particular brand of camera.

Yes!

The epic is a non discriminating digital capture device where the manufacturers have gone toward what I call; a true color experience. The out of the box camera color spaces give a very accurate reproduction of a scene... So when considering skin tones with RED you must understand that it is reproducing color more accurately than ever in history.

No! Between IR contamination and the black box of Red compression, we do not have a "true color experience." On set today, the pink-orange sweater photographed yellow--curiously, a mildly different shade of yellow on each of several Epics. My gut said "IR pollution," but without a filter to test, there's nothing to do but balance the image. I cannot tell you how many times I have photographed something on Red that looked completely different from what 35mm or medium format film recorded--or what my eyes reported--sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way.

Red ferments color. Sometimes you get delicious whiskey, sometimes you get applejack, sometimes you get yogurt. We are all here because we want more magic whiskey :)

Care to update this thread with "Best Skin Tones of 2013" not shot on film? Since "American Hustle" and "Lovelace" are disqualified then I'd have to go with "Her"
