I'm looking for a fast portable external HDD for transfering media fast, for editorial and online.

The problem is that people always speak of the connections, that you need thunderbolt or USB3.0 and that's it. Yes, you need them, but you will never reach higher then 100 mb/s on a regular 7200 rpm drive and that is most of the time only during a peak performance cachebased transfer, whenever you play video for a longer period the datarate will drop and the video will stutter.

So, what is the best choice? I'm trying to find some kind of USB3.0 SSD solution, but I can't find anything. Best would be a case where I could change SSD's, like for regular HDD's but in a 2.5 casing with USB3.0 connection. Thunderbolt is good, but sometime you come across a system that don't have thunderbolt, like PC's or older Mac Pro's or other devices.
The very best would be a USB3.0 and Thunderbolt 2.5 casing for SSD's, but there seems to be none of those on the market.

Does anyone know any good brands or solutions for this?

Could be I misunderstood what you're looking for... but the wholesaler I have an account with has several external cases for 2.5" SATA drives with a USB3.0 connector in their selection. None with both USB3.0 and Thunderbolt, however. Some models have USB3.0 + FW400 and/or FW800.

If you can't find a SATA/2.5"/USB3.0 case, I'd be happy to help. Shipping cost from Finland to Sweden is quite low :)

i was looking for that too : fast enough for editing on notebook.single hard drive are not fast enough.
first you have to go with raid0 or ssd, second you need esata or thunderbolt. i don t have good result with usb3
