  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Best Particle Animation Software?

Houdini is crazy. Jeff do you use and know Houdini?
Id like to find someone who does for 3 effects in a music video im currently finishing.

Can't say I know Houdini 10. I actually was pretty up on Houdini a few years back with v6 or so. I've dabbled a bit with the new Houdini 10, but a lot has changed and I haven't put in the time to learn it since I haven't had a need for it.

Maya's abilities are pretty good and I'm OK there. I also use Lightwave and its ParticleFX more.

PM me if you want, maybe I can help out. If the effects are something that absolutely must be done with Houdini for some reason, I guess that's still an option, depending on what you need and when.

You can probably round up a handful of good Houdini guys over at the SideFX Houdini forum or other CGI communities like CGchannel.com, SpinQuad, etc..

I am not looking to buy it but, like BigLu, I am looking for someone to do some of the fancy VFXs needed for our movie.

Some of it involves manipulating and animating smoke into simple shapes. About 20-35 shots worth.

Yes - Houdini. Many packages have good particle systems today but Houdini is still the one. But that's only part of it - how you render the particles is important also.

The really critical part is finding an artist. I've seen great work come out of 'lesser' packages from skilled craftsman.
