Hey everyone! Hope you can help.
So I'm looking to expand my storage capacity/speed on my PC to start working with longer form RED productions meaning I'll need to re-arrange and maybe increase my hard drive space! My PC specs are pretty up to date:
Motherboard: MSI TRX40 Creator
CPU: AMD Threadripper 3960X
GPU: EVGA XC3 Geforce RTX 3090 OC
Original RED Rocket (I still have some old MX footage I work on from time to time - long story
)
RAM: 64GB G.SKILL F4-3600C17-8GTZR DDR4 RAM
PSU: 1200W Corsair Platinum
Cooling: NZXT Kraken X72, enough corsair fans to create a mini windpower farm
)
Case: Corsair Obsidian 900D
My main problem seems to be my bottleneck on the HDD/SSD side of things. I also unfortunately don't have access to thunderbolt as I'm on the AMD TRX40 platform, and only the gigabyte motherboard has the possibility of thunderbolt. I have the MSI Creator so have 10GBe and USB 3.2 gen 2X2. My motherboard also came with an expansion box for a maximum of x7 Gen 4 M.2 slots.
In terms of HDD/SSD, this is what I currently have access to, and am just wondering how I could re-arrange it or add to it to maximise my storage space speed and redundancy.
INTERNAL:
x1 Samsung 960 - EVO 500GB NVME M2 - Windows Drive
x1 Samsung 860 - EVO 1TB SSD - Scratch Disc
x1 Samsung 860 - EVO 1TB SSD - Project Assets (Music, SFX, LUT's, etc)
x2 Samsung 860 - EVO 1TB SSD - RAID 0 - Current Project
x2 Toshiba Enterprise HDD - 8TB - RAID 1 - Media Backup Files
x1 WD Black HDD - 4TB - Games
EXTERNAL:
x2 Hitachi Deskstar - 8TB - RAID 1 - Inside an AKITIO NT2 U31C - Media Backup Files
Crap tonne of 2TB-4TB small portable WD drives (just random crap and extra backups of smaller projects)
JUST PURCHASED AND UNUSED:
x4 Seagate Exos X16 - 16TB (was planning to use this for redundancy for bigger RED projects)
x4 Samsung 970 EVO Plus - 2TB (Haven't purchased yet, but was planning on doing so with the though of putting them into 1 big drive for my bigger RED projects where I need speed, but I'm unfamiliar with how RAID works with NVME's).
If any of you tech guru's can help me, I'll be forever grateful and name my NAS/DAS (if that's where this goes) after you
Thanks heaps for your time and input
