Hello!

We're shooting a short on the Epic that has an EF mount and was wondering what the best option would be for a true cinematic look?
At the moment, it looks like we're going with the Zeiss CP2s instead of a set of Canon L series lenses.

Any other options I should look at? How is the 100mm CP2?
And if we use a Zeiss kit, what lens should we use for a telephoto? (Something like the 70-200mm canon lens)

I'd love to use the Zeiss Super Speeds, but they're not EF mount.
Any suggestions about cinema lenses on an EF mount would be more than appreciated.

Thanks!

I shoot with Cinemoded Zeiss ZE lenses from Duclos Lenses. Pretty happy with them but they are still lenses so markings and focus throw are limiting factors.

Any lens can achieve a cinematic look. More importantly, are you shooting with zooms, primes, shooting handheld, are you using follow focus, etc..

Like Bob mentioned, lots of questions that need answers. Also, budget is a big factor because that will determine if you're going to rent or purchase lenses.

One of the most affordable lens sets you could buy that would produce an amazing look is Zeiss Contax Lenses. They come in C/Y mount, which can easily be adapter to Canon EOS with $25 cheap fotodiox adapters or the more expensive ($125/mount) Leitax adapters. You could pick up an entire set for around $5g give or take.

The more expensive route would be to pick up a PL mount and run a true Cinema lens. Leica, Schneider, Canon all of professional level cinema lenses. Again, all contingent on budget and what' you're looking for.

it all comes down to what your story is and how you would like to portray it visually. maybe the story would benefit from having more organic low contrast lenses like Zeiss contax, old nikkor ai lenses, or it could be sharper images from canon L's or zeiss ZE / ZF.
have a look through the script and consider what image effect would help drive the story and not what just looks cool and cinematic.
