  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Best Nvidia Card for Premiere CS6 on Mac?

I have the GTX285 and it works great in my MacPro.
But on eBay there are modded GTX580 that also work with mac. But for these card you need an external housing because it consumes more power than a mac pro can deliver.
the quadro 4000 is a bit better than the gtx285 but is about tripple the price.

Mmmm it can't deliver the power, or there isn't enough output plugs? I think the power supply is 980W
I am using a 580 with a Mac Pro 5,1 and I've used the two 6 pins to go through an adaptor to 8 pin, and then I've taken two of the SATA power connectors and converted them to one 6 pin.
It seems to work just fine, but am I risking anything by doing it this way?

The Quadros are a bit slower than the GTXs, but they are less accurate. You can see it on anti aliasing easiest. GTXs are designed for gaming; they get a lot of images out fast and errors be damned because only one person will see them one time for one frame.

To the best of my knowledge, the Quadros are most important to have for any graphics/animation/3D work. If rendering a timeline out of Premiere or elsewhere, I think it uses the CPU, in which case the graphics card is irrelevant.

So if you're a straight up editor, go with the GTX. Animation too? Try to get a Quadro 4000.

At least, that's how things work to the best of my knowledge. If anyone knows more, feel free to correct me.
