I'm about to take the leap and try editing 5k footage from a laptop. Is there anything you would change to this configuration?

Laptop Platform: EON17-S
Graphic Cards: Single 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M (4GB of Total GFX)
Processors: Overclocked Intel Extreme Edition Core i7-3920XM Quad-Core Processor (4.1GHz - 4.5GHz with Turbo Boost), 8MB Cache
Memory: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz (4 X 8GB)
Operating System: Genuine MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Edition
Optical Drive: 6X BD-R Blu-ray Burner/8X DVD+/-R/2.4X +DL Super-Multi Drive
RAID Configuration: RAID 0:
Hard Drive One: 480GB Intel 520 Series - Solid State Drive
Hard Drive Two: 480GB Intel 520 Series - Solid State Drive
SuperSpeed USB 3.0: SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Ports

Total cost: $4847.00

The footage will be on a 12TB G-tech S-Speed eS RAID that connects via Esata to the laptop.

I would recommend the HP EliteBook laptops. The current DreamColor screen is worth it, IMO and price-wise it's not going to be much different than that EON. HP also has way better support, IMO.

Other than that, your intended configuration looks just fine.

Hi Jeff,

Would you only go 17" or consider the 15" Dreamcolor version- Also, minimum recommended Nvidia display card?
(is 3000M too wimpy?)

I was hoping in January we'd see when 4K laptops awill be released, or at least have thunderbolt with support to output 4K
(pipe dreams?)

Thanks for any thoughts!

Thanks, Jeff. Here is the HP EliteBook config:

HP EliteBook 8770w Mobile Workstation
Windows 7 Professional 64
i7-3820QM Processor, 2.70GHz (Turbo up to 3.70GHz), 1600 MHz, 8MB L3 Cache
17.3 inch LED DreamColor FHD UWVA
NVIDIA Quadro K4000M graphics with 4GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
32GB 1600 MHz DDR3 4DM Memory
256GB Solid-State Drive (SSD) SED SATA III
750GB 7200RPM 2nd Hard Drive
Blu-ray R/RE DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL Drive

Total cost: $4823.00

There were a few other small items (blue tooth, backlit keyboard, etc) I didn't list above that were included in that price. Here's a side by side comparison of the major differences between the EON model from OriginPC.com and the HP EliteBook:

EliteBook 8770w:------------------------ EON17-S:
i7-3820QM (2.7Ghz) ------------------- i7-3920XM (overclocked 4.1GHz)
Quadro K4000M ------------------------- GeForce GTX 680M
17.3" LED DreamColor ----------------- 17.3" LED backlit display
(1) 256GB SSD (1) 7200RPM HD ------ (2) 480GB SSD

Prices are almost identical: $4800+.

How does the K4000M compare with the 680M? Obviously, the LED DreamColor monitor is a huge plus with the EliteBook. I'm leaning toward the EliteBook. Is there anything in the EliteBook config that I could downsize and still edit 5k footage easily?
