I don't need a lot of storage for now (just doing tests, shorts, music video), but I know I'll eventually have to build up so I need to buy and think of the future. I'd like to get a few internal hard drives that I could pop into either my mac, pc, or a future external storage solution.

I don't know all the tech things to look for, but I do know throughput is important.

I'm thinking of getting 2 of the internal Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB Sata drives. And then I'll buy more later, raid them, etc. etc.

Good? Thoughts? Something better?

Thanks!

use sata myself (4x320) internal - rock solid.

only thing i have ever had happen with the saegate is they over heated and shut down.......but this was in a flyaway kit in remote australia with dust and heat a pleanty.

The only other Drive I would suggest is the Samsung 1TB because they have 32mb cache. WD I've had some die on me, never a seagate that I didnt intentionally drill a hole through myself.

If you need speed there are dozens of e-sata Raid 0 - 5 Disk arrays that get you closer to 300/ Mbs.

Check out Facilis,

They make solid, reliable storage units that operates in a cross platform configuration with flexable redundancy.

Always use seagate...with no problems. Bought some Samsungs the other day on the advice of sales rep. He'd just got them in and they were 20% faster. He'd sold 120 with 3 returns. I bought 4, 1 failed. Took them back and exchanged for Seagates. He had no seagate returns in the same period.
I normally go for raid 0 with another raid 0 external backup. And I backup often/always. It's a risk thing where you gotta determine the impact if 'anything' blows.
Dave,

we bought 10 seagates and 3 went down. Any hard drive can have problems.
I have been happy so far with enterprise class hitachi's more expensive built better. they are what Red uses in the Raid.

Seagate and Samsung for me
