  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Best Dana Dolly/Slider Stands?

I have the Matthews and love em' the double rocky mountain legs and extra wide base rock, plus they are very nicely made. The avenger's base is too narrow, and the American doesn't go quite low enough Though to get the best out of a Dana dolly rig I find you need to also carry two sets of apple boxes so you can get really low and a pair of single riser juniors stands for eye level shots. (Just my two cents)

All stands suck. They are wobbly at the juinor pin interface. That's just the way it is. I bought 100mm half bowl mounts and bolted those to my Modern Speedrail fittings. Then I put either end of the speed rail on a 100mm tripod. If I need to be lower, apple boxes. A friend made adjustable speed rail legs for his which is an awesome solution. But all stands are going to be less solid solutions than a solid mount at each end.

Thanks, can you post a photo?

If you're just going to use them with the Dana Dolly, I'd recommend the AMERICAN GRIP DANA DOLLY BABY COMBO STAND. The contact area to the dana is much larger than the juinor pin interface.

I own the Matthews The Slider Stands and they were okay with the Dana. I have since transitioned over to a MYT Works slider and don't use the Dana all that much anymore. Matthews The Slider Stands are great with the MYT.

Just my 2¢

I got the dedicated Matthews Slider Stands. They do the job well, but there are times where I regret not just getting some low boy stands. They'd find more use when the dana dolly isn't being used. That said, I do like how low mine go. I still have to put the rails and ends on apple boxes for really low shots though. Can't always get around that.

I have the American Grip ones and like them a lot . They're slightly taller than the Matthews, a little less expensive, and still have two Rocky Mountain legs. True, you still need apple boxes to go low.

Do you still get a wobble (slight) with these? These are the stands recommended by Dana Dolly ppl themselves.

I have not experienced any wobble with these. They are like the short combo stands so they don't have a very wide footprint but no, no wobbling once everything is locked down. I have not used them with curved track though.

That's good to know. Now I can confidently pull the trigger on these. Thanks.

I went with the American low boy combo stands and agree that the collar around the junction helps with stability. While it would be nice to be able to go a bit lower, the reality is that any stand solution is going to give way to apple boxes/floor for really low angles anyway.

I wonder why the "no wobble" feature isn't advertised more. This is huge for Dana Dolly users.
