Hey folks, I was just curious if any of you A.C's/Operators out there had any suggestions for a solid, durable crew belt and pouches. The Setwear ones are quite common, and I've seen some ARRI ones as well... What are you wearing?

I picked up a couple of these black $12 fanny packs off amazon a couple years ago as spares for sparks/grips/gaffers/sound folks... no ones complained:

For AC/Ops, I have two different sized black photographers vests - forget where I got them, but they were cheap-ish

Sure you're not gonna impress any veteran union folk - but they won't look at you weird either (unless you're doing something wrong)

I considered setwear gear prior, but heard both in reviews and from an acting working spark that they aren't built as well as they used it and not worth the extra coin

The arri branded stuff... well i hope it was received as a promo.

You can also check with the big three rental houses on the west coast.
DTC in Oakland makes some super awesome grip gloves

YMMV

When I was an AC, I started with a Cinebags large pouch and used it for a few years until the belt loop tore off. I used to keep a lot of stuff in it but it got too heavy and ultimately upgraded to a small Lindcraft. Used that until it wore out. Then tried the large Arri pouch, ripped the d-ring off on the first job and got rid of it after about a year. Finally ended up with the Lindcraft G19 mini tool pouch which was perfect. I found it was best to carry as little as possible on my hip and keep most of the tools on the camera cart. I also had a massive tool belt with a 16' Fatmax, canned air, radio pouch, and a tape lanyard. Which was necessary as a 2nd AC. But as a 1st AC, just the tape measure, radio, and pen necklace was enough. Now, as a DP and operator I leave all that stuff in my run bag or if I have ACs just leave it at home.

I hava a pair of the ARRI belts with various pouches and filter holders I can change out as needed. I don't know that they are any better or worse that some of the other options out there, but I find them useful none the less.

When I AC, I prefer to have the least amount of gak hanging from my waist as possible. I don't like having that extra weight, and I especially don't like having that extra bulk, while I'm moving around a crowded set.

What works well for me is, finding tools that can be run through a normal belt loop. So, I don't even have to wear an additional work belt.

Normally, I'll have my FATMAX, with a magnetic belt clip attachment, my REDTOOL, in its pouch, and my Laser Distance Reader, also in its pouch, and my walkie hanging off my back right. Plus my dry erase pens, and a lens pen, in my back pocket.

(BTW for anyone who is unfamiliar with Lens Pens, you should check them out, they are an absolutely lifesaver. https://www.amazon.com/LensPen-NLP-...=1467484114&sr=8-4&keywords=lens+cleaning+pen )

Everything else that I need I'll either keep nearby on a camera cart, or in the Front-Box.

Of course, YMMV, but the key is that you feel like you are always equipped to solve any problem at any moment.

P.S. The same is true for when I DP except I'll lose the tape measure and add my light meter.
