  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Interesting David. I was the Chief Photog for a D.C. National News bureau for 15 years we had Explorers no cages. Most of the networks had Tahoes or Crown Vic's. We never had any gear stollen or incidents. If the windows are tinted and the gear out of sight it seems to work. I love the Sprinter style van but just for getting around the city you can't get them into a garage and street parking is rare in my case.

Another vote for Honda Element- take the back seats out and it's like a small panel van, and you can get them in all wheel drive. Surprising amount of cargo room with a nice low gate

What I have that works:
Audi Q7 (nice 7 seat people carrier)
Mercedes Sprinter Van
What I have that I wish worked:
Couple of Ducati race bikes
(I can get there fast, but don'thave enough room to carry sunglasses...) :-)

Still another vote for the Honda Element. I traded in my VW Golf and only wish I'd gotten an Element long ago. Incredible interior height, with no seam on the floor between the cargo and rear-seat area; just a broad, PVC-lined space for gear that gets tossed in over and over.

Other benefits: (1) You can open the top half of the rear door and shoot out the back. (2) One of the safest cars of its kind (that and the Forester). (3) Rear seats fold up flat alongside the side windows, or better yet come out altogether. (4) Relatively inexpensive.

This was my old baby :001_cool:

Mercedes has the metris cargo van which would fit in lower garages

You can open the top half of the rear door and shoot out the back.

That is what makes the 4Runner so great, you can roll down the window in the back hatch. Another feature I really like is the self-leveling air suspension. Load it up and when you start the engine, the car self-levels.

Not a ton of room, but certainly enough and very off-road friendly.
