Best Canon L lens for Red Use?

Hi Sean,
Depends on what Scarlet you're talking about. 2/3 Cinema or S35 (now called Epic-S)
Knowing that the Scarlet Cinema would get a x3.5(if I'm not wrong) Crop.
Also depnds if you need zooms or primes.
For the s35 sensor the 24-70, 70-200 and 100mm macro usm could be a great beginning. Every primes tween 15, 24, 35, 50, 85mm would be wonderful lenses.
On the Scarlet cinema, the 24-70 becomes a huge tele. Even the 8-15 won't be a "big" wide angle zoom. And using a 0.7 optical converter would decrease the lens quality.
I think there are no real solutions for wide angle on canon L serie, but all other focals could be found.

I use the Birger electronic lens control mount on my Red and find that my favorites are the 14mm f/2.8 and the 85mm f/1.2. I use the other L series primes as well though - 24, 35, 50, 100, 135, 200 and they are all very nice.

If you want to keep the investment down and carry just a few lenses around look towards the zooms, Tokina 11-16mm, 16-35mm L, 24-70mm L, 70-200mm L all of them are f/2.8 and visually complement each other fairly well. The 17-55mm although cheap is also well regarded but I haven't any personal experience with it.

So you happy with the Tokina 11-16 even on a FF?

You need just three lenses for KILLER shooting: 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.2, and the 85mm f1.2.

I'll bet 90% of our two features was shot with just those three lenses alone. Throw in the 24mm f1.4 and you're at 95%. Throw in the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 and you're up to 98%.

Seriously, three lenses will get you just about everything you'd ever really need. If you have a preference for wides, add those other two and you'll really have it. We VERY seldom ever go longer than the 85 (except for macro work).

Love the Canons with the Birger.

Stephen
