I'm looking to build a PC for editing 5D mkII footage and soon Red footage. I'll be using Pemiere Pro CS5 and the rest of CS5 Master Collection (just bought it), but I'm not getting red rocket as I don't need it.

Over at the Adobe Hardware forum they keep designing and commenting on systems, mentioning "...this system will be great for everything, except for red..." so that's the dilema.

What I am interested is the advice of others who are running CS5 on a PC.

I'm happy to go with 24GB mushkin ram, i7 980X overclocked, 4x F3 samsung spinpoint HDD's in raid 5 for projects, plus 1x F4 spinpoint for programs, not sure about the motherboard or raid card, etc.

... these are just some ideas, but I'm not sure about what works best with red ... i.e. a best bang for buck PC system for red footage ...

It depends - with CS5 and short form work like music videos, a fast computer is a must, a Red Rocket super great to have but not an absolute must. In long form, like TV or corporates, Red Rocket a must.
