That's funny. I have the fully kitted MacPro 6.1 and have no trouble at all in Resolve, Premier, FCPX or REDCINE-X Pro. My only annoyance is that AE ignores my D700 cards.....
What i find REALLY funny, is endless threads on inability to just simply render the damn thing without any kind of random glitches and psychotic colors. Even funnier, NO ONE EVER reported any of these kind of issues on good old 5.1. So, I'd rather get the job done instead of frantically QC'ing every render for random glitches. Some users tried to throttle the render down, some ask for numerous computer replacements and some even resorted to use some ice to cool down the trashcan. All those things are insane and often, useless.
So, if you are you a professional colorist, that needs to use Resolve day-in and day-out or you just someone, that occasionally uses it for transcoding and editing? Doing that is not the same thing as grading 5 and 6K material with 4K deliverables with some noise reduction and OFX thrown into a mix. Of coarse I'd LOVE an equivalent to Z820 or 840 for a Mac, but trashcan is what we got instead. I just put together a simple 8 SAS drives into my Z820 with 3ware controller and I can easily do 1100MB on them. Total cost for this RAID? $700, including Icy Dock. Good luck doing that on a trashcan. So, Resolve on a Mac 5.1 will continue to be my main platform for a little longer, but I'm already well along the way in transitioning to a PC. Unfortunately, using the trashcan is just delaying the inevitable. MacPro has no future for anyone, who needs to do any kind of heavy lifting. Yes, editing and transcoding is easy and can be done on an iMac.
