I'm thinking about making a small run of this Hand-Held rig... This is the 3rd prototype, It's design is specific to the Red DSMC series,
it won't fit on the Red One ( lacking shoulder cutout ) It's simple, light and very quick to use.
The Reason I'm posting here... Economy of scale. If I've promised a few colleagues one, it's not that much harder, and quite a bit cheaper
to make 10 or 20. Everybody Benefits.
What I especially like about it that other rigs don't do:
Lowest Possible C.G. Low C.G. keeps lateral movements from becoming roll axis movements.
Makes the camera feel like part of your body. Additionally lowering camera means lowering lens, which gives a
better left eye view over / past matte box so you can look at what's happening and be in the right place.
Quick to use. Going to and from the rig takes seconds. It's just a matter of sliding off the dovetail and sliding
the camera on the hand held. Takes less time than it did for you to read this.
Tripod Screws in Bottom You can light / rest / line up shots and then grab the camera and shoot in seconds.
Final version may include a standard large size quick release plate built in.
Rigid Simple and Light Version shown here weighs 2.2 pounds. Next ( production )version should be a bit lighter.
You'd be able to specify top-tube length, cross tube length, type of handle
( molded to your hands ! ) or bicycle style, pad cover material, and pad composition.... If you have a skill ( CG modeling,
sewing Leather, heat resistant hands of average size ) you can barter your work for a big discount.
This is a prototype... Fit and Finish of the final one will be better.
Your thoughts, input and level of interest would be welcome.
