My main man, Wally Pacholka, strikes again, this time with a brilliant shot of Mt Rushmore at night. The photo made NASA's APOD for 4th of July.

Liam, I had the pleasure of meeting Wally out at Nevada's Valley of Fire park a couple of months ago, and he's basically the nicest guy in the world. He's very humble, and generous with his time and knowledge.

Sanjin, I will ask him for some more details about the shot - camera, lens, etc. Based on the image quality, I would guess that he used the Canon 5D Mark II.

Very darn nice Evin! Love the composition and the "feel" of the images, I can also distinguish the Nikon look in them (nothing better or worse about that, just an observation). For what I've seen from Tom and now you, Joshua Tree looks like a key into the universe, maybe the gate to a black hole? :-)

Evin, I think you were doing more than fooling around -- those shots are tremendous! Fantastic work.

Videodisc, I use the 5D2 for all timelapse now. I absolutely love that camera.

These pictures really looks very beautiful but i think that the background of these pics are not original...

Actually the backgrounds are very real. That's the whole beauty of ultra low noise, high ISO pictures possible with the latest Nikon and Canon cameras, especially with fast lenses!

Haven't been taking too many pictures as of late, sadly, but long exposures have always been one of my favorite kinds of photography.

Here's one I took in the middle of (almost) nowhere, Georgia, a few years back...

Amazing images guys. Great thread once again from Tom and co.

Thanks guys, seriously though these were my first attempts at Astro-pics and Startrails.

Outstanding work, Evin. Thanks for sharing!

I was in Joshua Tree fooling around with Astro-photography myself last week...

Pretty fun, all taken with the Nikon D3 and 14-24 and 24-70 Nikkor lenses.

Wow, Evin, ridiculously good stuff.

What was your exposure on this one?

Thanks again, 20s F2.8 ISO 2000, Timed using an MC-20 timer remote cable release. The rocks were illuminated by some random campers headlights. The D3 and the 14-24mm F2.8 Nikkor really are the sweet spot for Milky Way photos. The lens is as sharp as a Master Prime and the D3 can expose at this speed with very minimal noise making beautiful large prints.
