  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Beautiful images on BBC 1. Blown away!!

If I were Mr Boyle, I would ask his rigger to take a demonstration fall in that jury-rigged safety harness. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to foresee what would happen to his crown jewels if the harness was actually loaded!

Did they use a lensbaby in episode 2? Im also a bit confused because I can occasionally see white dust/hair/scratches? Has it been printed on film and scanned?

I just found this page where Geoff Boyle FBKS presented:

Yes great images in did.

Thanks for the pics Sanjin, the ET shoulder mount, as well as everything else they make, really kicks A^#@!!

Ketch,

as you said could be that ET shoulder mount really kicks A^#@!!

But also I do know that some DPs don't like this type of mounts where

your hand are down and pretty far from the camera.

They prefer a handle that is close to lens and camera something like an

Aaton Penelope where you can touch cam and lens controls with your fingers.

That is a reason i custom my RED1 for run & gun and everyting is close to

touch with my fingers, EVF, M-Audio MicroTrack II and the lens.

Also Allstar shoulder pad I can slide in Z axis that is more important than X

and Y axis because that adjustment you can do with your shoulder anyway.

See all at the pictures below and watch a short movie as my sound test.

On this Run & Gun RED1 rig I will soon add VievFactor's Origo Record stop/start button and Doug Underdahl's Lightweight Rod Support for RED One Camera.

The sound comes from the small JBL loudspeakers that you can see at the footage.

My outdoor test is coming soon.

Stay tuned.

Yes Sanjin,

I also have been in shoots were the DP's don't like that type of mount, but they still love it :)

I do believe however that a mount such as the one you posted above, it is far more ideal when in very tight spaces as I'll likely encounter soon during the shooting of my first feature, like Hospital scenes, in small rooms type scenes and such, so your mount will be a great choice for those type of shots.

Ketch,

you are right and have a look at the footage where Christopher Doyle

explains "a dance" with a camera.

This type of dance you cannot "dance" with mount(s) like an ET's.

I used to be all about Dancing, not so much this days:)

I have tried different mounts, and for me is always the factor of getting the lightest set up possible, cause of my F^#@Up Knee and all :) so weight is also an issue, but mostly is about Mobility in tight spaces and the possibility to get really close to the subjects w/o risking of knocking them with the protruding handles of the mount.

ciao

Ketch,

if you want to shoot with 85mm lens (portrait) or Macro at 50mm, 60mm or 100mm

a kind of custom rig I did is MUST HAVE.

Hand held

Hand held

This is my hack solution (cheap). The handle is next to the lens so you can operate fiz. I just bent 1/2" steel rod and casted it inside 19mm hollow rod stock with west system 404 and epoxy. You will need map gas or oxy to bend the rod. I filed down the red shoulder mount and use it in the ET 19mm base plate.

Here there are two more picture about Boyle's RED kit and specialists could recognize FF brand type and it could be Preston FF.
