By Red, I am assuming they mean Red 1 and Epic (and eventually Scarlet).

I think this means any flavour of red. But what is approved anyway? I got an offer last year from BBC on a series I made on an HVX 200 and in 720p. The series went to National Geographic who also have strict rules against such formats. Not that I would suggest shooting on poor cameras!

Was the whole show shot on an HVX 200? I thought they made these rules so that the majority of the content was on higher quality cameras, cause productions always seem to sneak a GoPro or something similar in for quick shot.

Last time I checked, I believe Red 3K and 4K is fine but Red 2K isn't accepted. By agreement you my guess is you may be able to use Red 2K for high speed work. Best check with them directly.

It's worth noting that for HD the minimum bitrate is 50Mbps for Long GOP formats. I-frame formats require a bitrate of at least 100Mbit.
