Hey All,

We are having issues with one of our Red Bricks. The battery will not charge up no matter what charger we put it on (out of 3 separate chargers). Not too long ago, when we could still get it to charge up at least a little, it would often not power up the camera.

I called Red and they said I need to either buy a new battery or find a repair shop that will do work on Lithium Ion batteries. Any ideas?

To be honest I am a bit troubled that we have had a battery fail already. We are out of the 90 days of course, but having owned many cameras in the past and never having issues with batteries before, I am not to excited about the prospect of spending another $450 on a new battery... Why don't they have batteries and chargers that are more solid?

Any ideas/help would be much appreciated!

Can you send a picture of the negative port of the battery ? Or what will happen if you push the down the battery harder to the charger ?

If you want we can take a look at it for you. We can try a few things out and let you know what we find.

Since it's already out of warranty, you have little to lose.

If interested, give me a call tomorrow after 9am, ext 524.

FYI, we offer 1 year on our XP-L95RED and XP-L190RED battery packs.

I've lost a battery in exactly the same (sounding) way. under a year old. Let us know if you can fix it...

I have the same issue with one of my batteries. When I push the button on the side all four lights work, but it won't power up the camera or work on any charger.

I had one of the chargers on my Switronix quad fail around the same time. And I had also been using the Red 12volt charger adapter (which has since been recalled), but it didn't kill the Red charger even when starting the car. But maybe it killed the brick.

i have 6 batteries and having the same issue with 2 of my batteries. I've found with the "non-charging batteries" that if you press down on the battery it will begin to charge. If I let up the downward pressure it goes into the flashing red light mode.....which means a failed charge of course.

So for now, I have to rig those 2 batteries on the charge with downward pressure in order for them to charge properly.

anyone with similar issues? or a better workaround than mine?

One possible reason why you haven't had this issue in the past is because no other camera uses as much power as the Red One. A new battery on the this camera will only last about 45min. Any broadcast camera would use the same amount of power in twice that time, 1.5-2hrs. So you're cycling your batteries twice as fast and thus cutting their life by a factor of 2ish.

A typical life of a moderate-heavy used battery is 2-3 years, about 250-300 cycles, before it needs to be re-celled, from my experience. So about a year of moderate-heavy use of any battery you use with the Red One is all the life you should expect before needing to re-cell them.

Hey guys,

I think Blueshape batteries are the closest to Red bricks. Has anybody tried to check on Blueshape?? Maybe they can give a hint or two.

In any case, I am still for Red bricks. With thousands of bricks out there, a handfull of problems over here do not put me off.
