Hi All,

I'm about roll on a feature and wanted to pick up a second charger for my 140wh RED Bricks.

My question is - can I use a 3rd party battery charger with the RED Bricks? Everything I know and think about the matter says yes as long as the voltage, wH, and amperage numbers jive - but wanted to check with the forum to see if anyone has any info or thoughts I need to consider.

Here is the charger I'm looking at from GlobalMediaPro: http://www.globalmediapro.com/dp/A00UX3/Globalmediapro-SCA2S-2-channel-Charger-AC-Adaptor/

It notes that it's compatible charging batteries for RED from 95wh to 230wh - so I figure the 140wh RED bricks would be okay... Considering I could save about $400, I'm hoping this will work out.

Thoughts?

I have the same charger with a different label on it and with works fine with my RED bricks.

I didn't know you could use 3rd party chargers. One of the reasons I sold my red bricks and charge and went with AB batteries.

Following up on this question.

Mitch did you end getting that charger and how is it?

Also the same question but using different V-Lock batteries with the RED Back Pack Quick Plate?

Following up on this question as well.
Plus, is there any chance to power the camera while charging batteries?

Regarding that charger, i got an email from the GMP staff:

The charger is not designed for RED bricks and using the charger long
term may reduce the battery's life span.

RED charger is not recommended for Globalmediapro batteries either.
Please use RED bricks with RED charger and GMP charger with GMP
batteries.

Which makes sense, but don't know if it really makes the difference

Sorry for the delay in reply. I did pick up a 3rd party battery charger (although it was off of ebay rather the one in the original link - pretty much identical from what I can tell). It works perfectly from what I can tell and I haven't noticed any change in the amount of battery life I am getting out of my RED Bricks.
