Battery Charger exploded.

Hi all, just a little information to share. This morning on shoot i plugged in 2 Charger to a switch board. One of them Popped! ( The Fuse actually ) and it was very very loud POP. The other one works fine. After changing to spare Fuse again it POPPed again. I thought the fuse should be preventing the charger from overload. It just won't work now. Please use in-house power if you can and try to avoid power from generators unless the Voltage is Regulated. Now if anyone else went through is , can you please give some advice on how to proceed. Thank You.

Well, as one of them works fine, it may just be coincidence that it blew when you connected it to a generator. The fact the fuse keeps popping indicates a dead short fault in the charger, and it just as likely would have blown plugging it into a wall mains socket.

If it's still under warranty, get it replaced or repaired by Red. If not get quotes on repair cost from Red or other suitably electronic engineer. It may work out that it's not worth repairing.

I don't quite know if a "blown fuse" equates to "charger exploded", haha. Regardless, yes, unregulated power sources are not very friendly to electronics. Give RED tech support a contact via www.red.com/support so they can assist.

I supposed the Blown fuse really don't equates to a Explosion. I was just 2 feet away when it popped and for that instance i really think to myself.." Oh...Sh*T ! Hopefully it can be repaired as this charger belong to a rental house. Is there a different between earlier charger and the later chargers?
It seems the newer one behaves better.

No real modifications to the RED CHARGER since we updated the mating plates over a year ago.

There was a factory firmware update in the past too I think
