Hello
I like the old style 4 pin XLR PAG batthery belts when I shoot and I also like the redvolt batteries in the camera handle. What I find strange is that when the pag belt runs out, the Redvolt does not take the relay. I have to shutown the camera and disconnect the XLR cable befoe the redvolt is seen. Is this normal ?
Many thanks

I think so. I have Bellien v-mount Batteries and notice that most of the time, they don't switch over to the red volts when dead. Only once or twice did I see if flicker as it switched. Not sure why that happened.

I think only Red Bricks and/or Red's official battery plate will allow the transition but I hope others will chime in since I have neither.

We have the belt clip and Globalmediapro (china) Vlock batteries and I have never had a problem hot swapping batteries when I have a redvolt in the camera.
We have the RED battery belt though

I had this same issue and it turned out to be a problem with the side handle.

You (and Wil) should open a ticket with Red Support.

You can check this by connecting the A/C adapter; Does the camera stay on when you unplug the A/C from the the wall?

Thanks Todd. Unfortunately I don't have a AC adapter...ha, ha. It's funny. When I bought a Scarlet, it came with one. When I bought the Epic, it comes with a nifty box instead. How odd.

Your Epic didn't come with an AC adaptor? Is that normal?Seems odd to me but I own a Scarlet.

Can you hot swap at all, or are you saying that when you wait for the v-mount to die, is when it doesn't switch over?

Hot swap functionality should work regardless of the battery brand and during the first year or so, people had to send their Side Handles back because there was an issue (this was before the new Side Handle RV clip mod). Conversely, what I've noticed, is that as the v-mount battery dies, it flickers back and forth between the v-mount and the REDvolt as the v-mount goes down below 11.5v. As it gets closer to full dead, it can flicker pretty fast, and sometimes the swap can't keep up and the camera powers off.

I forgot that we sent our sidehandle back. It was for other reasons then hot swap not working though

Just to clarify. I have no V mount. I have a pag belt with 4 pin XLR which should be equivalent to a main connection. I did the Side Handle RV clip mod about 6 months ago I think. Therefore this is not normal.

I reinstalled the Side Handle RV clip and now it switches over great. Many thanks to you all.

The Redvolt retaining clip mod was just a simple spring metal reinforcement of the plastic one - it shouldn't have had any effect on the electronic battery switchover at all.

That is what I thought but for some reason it has kicked in. That said, there is nothing to say that this is not just a freak accident, so I will test to see.
