Just got my RED. I want to be safe so I have some battery questions.

I have used AB Hytrons in the past and Ive always left them on the charger during storage getting a trickle. Are RED batteries the same or should I remove them after charge? Also, each battery comes with a zip lock bag in the bottom of the box - what is this for?

Ziplocks are good when you airtravel, to prevent a shortcircuit with a loose metal object, which could end up in blowing up your battery and the explosion of the aircraft you´re in ;)

I'm using now RED batteries half a year. They lost capacitiy of about 25 percent. The interesting thing is when they are under 25 percent of load showing at the cam and I put only one battery on the charger, the light on the charger turns from yellow blinking at the beginning to red. Seems to be no charging. After 10 minutes I remove it und put it again on the charger it is charging. Anybody else ????

I have this same problem. Seems to be a charging error (I think thats what Red light means) we have to futs around with it a bit to get it to charge properly. I'd like an answer too. is it a battery problem or a charger problem?

Hi Kaya !

We had a lot cycles the last 2 month, because we are nearly ending our 9 weeks feature shoot. Since beginning using the batteries every of them has about 200 to 300 cycles. They hold about 70 to 80 minutes what is not bad when you think on the big batteries of the F23 which are running out lately after 30 minutes. But we are using now RED a lot and I think we have to replace the batteries after one year. We will see. But as rpshooter says, it would be nice if the RED team can look to the charger, because its not normal when they are empty, that they don't charge when you put one single battery on the charger.

nice greez

Are they warm when you place them on the charger? If so, they may need to cool so the thermal protection doesn't kick in.

One question: Can IDX battery power RED camera? Thanks!

IDX batteries are fine, speaking for the Endura Elte and Endura 10 Batteries. They also charge on the Red Charger. Endura Elite powers the camera aprox. 2hrs.

I've used Sony, which are a lot like the IDX. They power the camera fine, but the camera can't read the status. When they die unexpectedly, all sorts of nasty software stuff happens. I bought a couple Reds for this reason.

Does Red say anywhere how many cycles the batts are good for? I would imagine at 5-600 would be the absolute outside limit.

Nick

They are Lithium Ion, so 350 cycles is about all you can expect.

Thanks for the tip. It seems it could be this reason...... Would be nice it will work faster....

Hi James,

I carry IDX for just back ups also, I know that no status, it's danger!
I did use few times IDX and was okay, I have only 2 red bricks, and I have ton's of IDX, oh well. I should get couple more red bricks like you.
