  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Update 7/21/13
Reset RMD is now available with Premiere Pro CC support as part of a collection of commercial apps known as Project Tools. Project Tools include two other time saving utilities for Premiere Pro editors working with RED footage. Why does this app cost money now? To read Premiere Pro CC files I had to license other code so I'd like to recoup the cost and I can only hope that because my apps save you time that you value the time I put into developing these apps, fixing bugs, and so on.

You can check out a 15 day trial of Project Tools for Windows or OSX here http://www.fallenempiredigital.com/blog/projecttoolssoftware/
Current release v0.9.8 - Tested and working with CS6 and CC. May work with CS5.5 but proceed with caution.

Still using CS5.5 - CS6? The original app is still available so keep reading.

When you adjust your clips in Redcine-X Pro and reopen Premiere Pro, you may have noticed that these adjustments aren’t instantly updated. Within Premiere Pro, you have to right-click each RED .R3D file and select “Source Settings” then click on “Reload from RMD”. You may think that you can select multiple clips before selecting "Source Settings" to batch reload within Premiere, but it suffers from a bug. All RED .R3D clips are reloaded with the RMD info from the first file selected. There is no way within Premiere to refresh all your files at once which, for 100+ clips, can be a daunting task.

I’ve created a utility that removes all Premiere Pro adjustments. This utility forces Premiere Pro to reload the current RMD settings for every RED .R3D file in the project.

This may also be useful since you can export an XML from Premiere, load it into Redcine-X, colorgrade, and then use the utility. You avoid the slight hassle of reimporting and relinking the project that Redcine-X generated and you avoid the transitions and effects that get stripped during the XML process.

Windows and Mac versions available.

November 21st, 2012: v0.9.5 - Misc bug fixes. Corrected issue on Mac with saved file not using Premiere’s file icon.
October 14th, 2012: v0.9.4 - Corrected bug when encountering dynamically linked After Effects assets.
September 9th, 2012: v0.9.3 - Major bug fix, increased speed, and added progress bar to avoid user confusion.

While the RMD does not refresh automatically in CS6 it is possible to batch update an entire folder worth of clips at once. By shift selecting multiple clips then choosing Reload from RMD, all selected clips will be affected. Is this the function you were looking for?

I've experienced bugs when using ctrl+click (windows) to randomly select R3D files then right clicked > Source Settings > Reload from RMD and it will apply the RMD file from the first selected file to all of the selected files rather than resetting each file to it's own RMD. So what you mention doesn't work 100% of the time as intended.

The utility is more fool-proof and saves time on really large projects.

That's a pleasant surprise....learn somethign new every day.

This has been my experience as well.
Currently, there is not a way to reload all RMD's for a range of R3D files in PR.

YES!!! This is exactly what I needed to avoid repetitive motion injury.
Thanks!!!

Nik, I sent you a private message to gather some troubleshooting info. You're the first to say it hasn't worked for you... at least the first I know of :)

Really excited to put this great utility to use, but it's not working for me either. I'm using CS6 on Windows 7. I press the "process project" button, select my project, but the files loaded in CS6 remain unaffected. I've tried doing it while CS6 is opened and closed. Am I missing a step? Thanks

The utility does take a bit of time to run on larger projects. You should eventually be prompted to save a new project file. You should then open this new file in Premiere and you're all set. This will have no immediate effect on an open project and, even though I trust my own programming, I wouldn't save the new version over the old.

... Me thinks I have to put a status bar on the program if it's starting to confuse more than one person.

Hi Angelo. I think a status bar would be a great addition. I've successfully used the app on a small test project with a few RED clips, but now that I'm trying it on my actual project containing two days of footage, I'm not sure if it's simply not working or timing out.

I found a current solve on the forum. Export the Premiere project as a FCP XML, and then re-import that same XML. This will force Premiere to reload the RMD data for the clips in your sequence. The sequence you just imported via XML will reflect the changes you made to the RMD.

*Update: The downside to this method is that it does not update the original source clips, rather the re-imported clips from the XML. This essentially means you are importing a duplicate of your project's clips, bins, sequences, etc..

It sort of times out. Without going too deeply into programming, I just didn't take the time to optimize it. Be patient and you'll see the save project dialog within a minute or two with large projects. Again, once I have time for a revision, that shouldn't be an issue whatsoever.
