  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I am trying to prep a sequence for color (DaVinci Resolve). I'd like to batch change all clips in sequence from their defaults (Redgamma) to a different color space and color gamma while preserving all the rest of the settings. Is there a way to do this without having to do it one clip at a time? This is a simple operation in Resolve, Redcine-X, and Avid Media Composer.

Ideally I'd like to just send an XML over to Resolve and link to camera masters to access Raw settings. I have found this method challenging because the XML doesn't preserve accurate sizing and speed attributes across all clips. An alternate method I'm exploring is to batch change clips to RedLogFilm within Premiere and export a self-contained file then use EDL to pre-conform.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to first "disable masterclip effects" so that the raw settings cannot be edited in the effects palette, then you can select all the clips and open "Source Settings..." and do the change there to all clips.

I've test that method, unfortunately all clips update with the same metadata. I only want to change the color space and gamma space and preserve all other metadata for each clip. For example using source settings method if I group select a series of clips with different temperature and only change the gamma space the result changes all clips temperature based on the first clip.

I can use redcine x to do the task but I can't find a way to refresh the RMD in premiere for a series of clips, I've only found a way to do one clip at a time.

If the different temperature settings are in the RMD's, changing the color space and gamma of all the clips will not change the other settings. But if you changed the temperature in Premiere and didn't write an RMD, those clips will inherit the temperature, when you're trying to change the color space and gamma. So it's possible to keep the settings, but a bit tricky.

In Redcine-X Pro I've loaded all clips that are represented in the Premiere timeline. I've created a look preset changing color space to DRAGONcolor2 and gamma curve to REDlogfilm. In the preset I've uncheck all other perimeters in the look preset. All clips metadata is preserved except for Color Space and Gamma Curve. Is there a way to then update all clips in premiere as a batch process? I know how to do it on a clip by clip basis (reload RMD is source effects) but this is very time consuming.

Keep in mind that I am handed the timeline from editor who cut with Red footage (as shot: typically redgamma4) which very common.

What would happen if you changed the color space and gamma space in RC-X, then saved your new RMD's for each clip, then outputted an xml from Premiere to resolve?

Your clips may not change in Premiere, but if you tell resolve to decode the R3D's by their metadata, then Resolve should decode based on your new RMD, not what's in premiere right?

This won't batch change your timeline in premiere to Log, but that doesn't matter right? You just need the log timeline in resolve right?

XML doesn't translate speed/sizing correctly from Premiere to Resolve so that won't work. If XMLs translated correctly then I wouldn't care what metadata Premiere is set to because I can easily overwrite in Resolve. I'd rather not use a file/preconform workflow however I am trying to avoid hours of eye matching speed changes and sizing.

I'd just hand it over to the colorist, explain your dilemma, and ask them to use taste and good sense in applying the best look for color temperature and ISO (and possibly tint) based on the RMDs. Chances are, you're going to have a completely different reaction when you see everything cut together on a calibrated monitor anyway.

A huge part of what colorists do nowadays is apply lots of power windows to the scene, and this is a game-changer in terms of having different parts of the scene having different exposure/color/contrast at the same time. People assume that what they do in RedCine-X Pro is significant or meaningful, but I've found at best it's just a ballpark judgement at that moment. Chances are, it's not going to work for the final, but it will at least be a reference point so you can say, "this was my basic idea for the scene" and then move on from there.

i think you could just offline all those clips and reload them into premiere and voila

Did this work?

Anyone know of a way to set a keyboard shortcut to get to the master effect controls?

EDIT

Found a shortcut to get to master controls with less clicks. There is a shortcut called match frame. if your in effect controls or lumteri controls and you Hit Match Frame (F) it will pull up the master controls settings for that clip!!!!

*Bump* any way to do this? I am setting up a ProRes proxy workflow but our proxies are all in RWG\Log3G10 so I want to batch change all of the R3Ds as well without messing with white balance etc.

I have been able to apply a preset to all clips in the project browser by changing the settings on one clip, then right clicking the header that says "RED Source Settings" and then saving it as a preset then dragging that onto all of the clips i want to change. Not the best or easiest workflow, but it worked.

I'm still searching for a solution to this problem nearly a year later.

Has anyone successfully batch changed one metadata setting while PRESERVING the other settings in Premiere?
