I have been taught, when uploading files from a card to my mac, to upload all files on the card, consisting of the RDM folder, txt file and two bin files. What happens if I separate the r3d files from the others? I shot a bunch of stuff that I'd like to group in one folder if possible. Will I not be able to open the r3d files if I discard the txt and bin files? Thank you!

Ive done it a few times by just grabbing the R3D.
No different from extracting portions and saving as R3D.

Those are log files, once transferred you probably won't need the bin or text files unless there's a problem. You just need to keep the R3D folder structure.

I just dealt with an editor friend of mine pulling r3d's out of the file structure of a wicked long interview. Files ended up being corrupted in a way, and I had to send him my backups.

Don't do it, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
