Is there anyone else here waiting for their shipping copy? :)

I'm so excited! Judging from the reviews this seems like one of the best transfers released on Blu-ray so far with its Todd-AO format scanned at 8k!

Ebert said it was the best looking video disc.... EVER.

Can't wait to see it at 1080p!!

deep, did it arrive yet? any chance of some screencaps?

Another BD to look out for is How The West Was Won, shot on 3 strip Cinerama (3 x 6perf 35mm).

Also take a look on Grand Prix on HD-DVD, shot on 5perf 65mm like Baraka.

There is a movie shooting right now with 5perf 65mm.

Cool, will check out How the West Was Won!

Are you thinking about Samsara?

Tom: Have you seen Morten Skalleruds A Year Along the Abandoned Road?

Check out here for details; http://in70mm.com/newsletter/2001/65/abandoned/index.htm

Some of it was used in A-has lifelines video. Would be really cool to see what it really looks like in projected 70mm.

Agree!

By the way I got Baraka on blu-ray on thursday and it is just as mind blowing in full HD glory as I expected!

Amazing, amazing. This is the first I have heard of this! I'm going to take some time and read about it and try to get my hands on a nice copy. Yeah, seeing this in 70mm projection would be epic.

Does it look that good? Would it still hold up since it was done years ago? I love when they restore films, I have to see it!

If you are worried about the film going downhill, check out a screening of something like Lawrence of Arabia. It still looks damn gorgeous projected at 70mm!

And Ben Hur... omg.

I read that fresh new BluRay is coming in 2009.

From a new scan and all. :)

But, yes... Larry is just epic too.

Very cool. I saw a very clean, pristine 70mm print at the Aero in LA. One funny thing about the screening at the Aero. When Young's title card came up in the opening credits, the theater burst into huge applause! I was like, "WTF.. cheering the DP?"

I knew I was in for a good night.

Some 1080p grabs from the Bluray.... wow, it looks great! The detail is so good that in some scenes, I can pick out entirely new things I never noticed before.

What kind of glass was Baraka shot on, or 65 mm and 70 mm for that matter? Regular 35 mm anamorphic/spherical lenses or something else altogether?
