Bailout Alternative???

Where`s good ol` Palin in this equation? Heh?
BTW - Her name screams for some fantastic titles, i.e. Impalin` or so ;-)

Gotta admit... I would PAY(lin) to see her skinnin' a moose while wearin' nothin' but fur panties and bra.

Joe Biden on the other hand... I would PAY to not have to watch him do or say anything... unless I was havin' trouble sleeping.

...Something has to be said for Palin and that 83% approval rating she has in her home state. It definitely isn't her brains getting her that far. Well, OK, she's not the dummy that SNL plays her up to be and the Couric interview didn't help. She didn't have adequate time to prepare and was totally cornered for that one, but then again, she was dumb enough to agree to it when it was obvious what was setting up to happen. But I think the Republican campaign was suddenly desperate to get her on TV because all of the negative media commentary about how she was doing all this traveling and meeting with world leaders and media was being kept away. I have to admit that I like her as a candidate -- she more accurately represents mainstream america far better than any of the other candidates involved on either side of the fence. Part of the problem is that I think much of our country just doesn't understand Alaska.

Anyway, there isn't an unattractive woman anywhere near the forefront of this presidential campaign, on either side of party lines.

Agreed. McCain's mom is a hottie!:usd:

Hey Kalone... you're not perchance FROM Cologne... are you?

OK, got me there.

Actually though, relatively speaking, you were correct. Isn't she like 90 something? Impressive looking lady for someone even 20 years younger.

Hahahaha, hilarious conversation. :)

It's all Kalone's fault.:innocent:

Just noticed... there have been no bailout posts lately... recession must be over!

Aaah. I see. You must be referring to something like this : http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/30/painting-naked-sarah-palin-drawing-crowds-chicago-bar/

Hey Kalone... you're not perchance FROM Cologne... are you?

Nope. I`m from good ol Burlin..uh...Berlin. But you`ll never guess where MY ancestors are from...:alien:

Thanks. And it`s damn funny as hell! :-)

Definately dude. Our chancellor and "human squirrel" Angie Merkel just signed guarantees in excess of 400 billion euros and the Frankfurt stock exchange is higher than amy winehouse ever was.

Can someone tell me if their is any good third party candidates for the US Presidency?

Im sick in tired of the Republican and Democratic parties!

Not this time around. Something called Unity '08 tried to get up a groundroots third party candidacy, but somehow everything slipped back into the same old familiarity. I was a supporter until I realized I didn't want unity necessarily, in politics. Just independence from party dogma. That's what I felt McCain afforded.

My great hope would be that he would run for one term as a dealmaker with credit going to either or both parties when a deal gets made. Then, there would be no advantage to either party for treating his presidency as a lame-duck presidency.

Somehow she looked better in my imagination:sad:

Casablanca... Your people came from Casablanca and were the original ouners of the Green Parrot!:detective2:

The Amy Winehouse quote... we can't be sure what heights she's reached because no one there remembers. I hear she's been off the charts, and the stock market is still on the paper, AFAIK.

My absentee ballot lists 4 other parties besides the Republican and Democratic.

1. Constitudion
Baldwin and Castle

2. Libertarian
Barr and Root

3. Green-Rainbow
McKinney and Clemente

4. Independent
Nader and Gonzalez

The problem at this point with all other parties and candidates is that they never receive enough votes to matter. Anyone who votes for them is essentially casting an F U vote. None of these other political parties have representation within the house or senate. There are senators and congressmen who do not declare specifically for the Republicans or Democrats, therefore they are automatically just labeled Independent, regardless of actual minority party affiliation. And without further representation or additional parties with significant representation, it's near impossible for anything but republican and democrat caucus measures in the house, for one example.

Arguably, the most successful independent campaign ever run for the Presidency was that of Henry Ross Perot. However, many think that Perot actually entered the race as a Bill Clinton detractor. Perot most likely had no intention of actually serving as president as he ducked out of the race after two presidential debates and as he was showing serious gains in the polls - some even favoring him to win. After a 10 day or so hiatus, Perot came back and and invited people to vote for him if they didn't care for the other two candidates and for the remainder of the campaign leading up to the election, he essentially did nothing. Even with that, Perot still managed to finish second in two states and captured nearly 20% of the nation's popular vote.

He made another run for it 4 years later, but after his odd behavior just before the previous election and only giving it a half-hearted attempt the second time around, his Reform Party only gathered about 8% of the popular vote. Seemed that his mission this second time around was to target Al Gore, which didn't really work.

I was sad to see Perot do this to himself with these two elections. I seriously think he had a good chance of winning it in '92 had he not ducked out. Which leads me to believe that is why he did. He was always one of my personal heroes in a way. Retired military (Navy), worked his way up the corporate ladder at IBM, he put up most of the money for Steve Jobs to build NeXT Computer and a lot of other things. One cool thing he did was that in '78, for which I was definitely way too young to know of at the time or remember, but when two of his employees were detained by the Iranian government, he privately organized and funded a successful rescue operation, headed by former military and mercs. This rescue operation ended up freeing approximately 10,000 inmates in an Iranian government prison and his two employees along with the rescue team crossed the border into Turkey. It inspired a US TV miniseries sometime in the early or mid '80s.

Anyway, if one looks at everything Perot did right about his campaign leading up to the election, it shows that independent candidates can have a legitimate chance.

I agree with you but I would rather vote than not. If every candidate(major party and third party) is grossly corrupt, and/or that the elections are fixed and I had no say, than I would not vote. That would be my vote of no confidence. I still believe we have a choice. Without choice there is no represented democracy/republic.

She didn't have adequate time to prepare

She didn't have time to prepare for "what do you read?"???

I think Sarah is exactly as uninformed as the Couric interviews lead you to believe. Literally every time she's been asked a question and winged the answer she sounds worse than anyone in this thread.

When a conservative like David Brooks calls her completely unqualified and a cancer on the Republican party it's fair to say she's a serious problem. And her favorables have dropped 20% in the past week.

Not to mention this just coming out:

On Friday, a bipartisan panel of state legislators released a 263-page investigative report that concluded Palin had abused her power by summoning the authority of her office to pursue a personal grudge, in violation of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.

“Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda, to wit: to get Trooper Michael Wooten fired,” said the report, written by Steve Branchflower, a retired state prosecutor hired by lawmakers to conduct the investigation.

Didn't we just have 8 years of that kind of vindictive governance? How anyone could vote for 4 more truly boggles my mind.

And the son of a Tennessee Democrat hacked her email, but you weren't too keen to mention that, were you... or that the Fla. Democrat who won the disgraced Rep. Mark Foley's seat and promised to bring "ethics back into politics, starting with the family!" who has been found to be having multiple affairs and who the Democratic House leadership have been covering up for in order to hold on to his House seat (sound familiar?).

Joel, when you only make partisan posts, how can you expect anyone to take what you say as anything less than flubber?

I have to agree on that point... I was keeping my post as impartial as I could. I never said Palin wasn't dumb. But I think "stupid" is in the eye of the beholder and for now it's all too convenient for most "democrats" to simply label her as stupid and uninformed. It's what they see, it's what they want to see. Of course, in the minds of some here, the above paragraph has labeled me as a right-wing nut-job.

I pride myself on not affiliating with either party, I vote across party lines at every election. And I can pick on candidates from either side. All politicians have screwed up at some point, it's only a matter of what the public chooses to see and what the media chooses to show us. Whether it's Obama's "small town white folk" or "guns and religion" comments or McCain waffling on his support leading up to the Bush vs. Kerry election, or Biden's increasingly arrogant demeanor when discussing topics he is not well educated with or his own obvious distrust for Obama early after his selection as running mate. Where does it end? ...It doesn't. I could really start ripping on all of them something fierce, but then I'd just piss everyone off I think.

Please re-read my post. I didn't call her stupid. I called her uninformed. I think that's a very fair statement and not particularly inflammatory.

The rest of my message is quotes from elsewhere.

I didn't mention ANYTHING about all Republicans. I was talking about Palin specifically.

I'm independent. I don't support Democrats just to support them. I don't support any corrupt politicians. So, I think it's really unfair to label that post partisan... and frankly, I really take exception to remarks like that.

This speaks for itself.
