Here's a question.
We're doing stop motion animation of figurines. I'm using a remote trigger (thank you Wes aka Pana-Tech!) and it's all working really well. I just click the trigger for each frame. At the end of the sequence, I "close" the file by clicking the rear run button on the camera.
Occasionally, if the animators make a mistake, or a puppet falls over, we will redo a frame.
In order to help the editor, it would be great if I could delete the last frame at this point. But since the camera is still technically "shooting" (the file is still open) I'm not sure it's possible.
Obviously, the editors can remove the frame. But it would be a nice to make the dailies as perfect as possible.
Anyway, maybe in a future build?
Cheers,
Harry

this doesn't solve your problem with the red but can someone clear up why you would shoot stop motion using a digital motion camera when you can use a digital still camera tethered to a computer? boinx istopmotion pro gives ultimate control over individual frames including the ability to onionskin. i'm sure there is a good reason, i'm just unaware.

We have 5 DSLRs and an Arri D-20 in addition to the Red.
The nice thing about Red is the instant preview. No computer, no render, etc. Just no easy way to delete frames in the middle of things... ;)

DSLRs can only do single frame capture - RED can do frames per second as well as single frame capture.

in the stopframe animation world all sorts of frame rates are deployed and RED gives us almost everything that a 35 mm movie camera under animation motor control can do, as well as potentially slotting in to complex motion control environments where again a range of frame rates from single frame upwards need to be triggered in multi-sync

and as harryclark points out live feed instant preview for animation assist

even the newest DSLRs that can now offer live feed are still not really designed for this purpose (stopframe) - overheating, switching off after half an hour etc but there are workarounds and they are used in multi camera features and commercials

I'm hoping we'll be able to do a lot more with the RED

Bad Frame Removal or Delete Previous Frame is pretty much essential for stopframe/timelapse use of the RED

theres been a lot of discussion on this forum in the past about deleting frames

from an animation perspective, this has been commonplace for video and dslr stopframe for years, helps the workflow

the failsafe mechanisms for delete frame are pretty standard and its the animators who are pressing the buttons here and it works pretty well

we need this!
