  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bad news...

This delay is no biggie for us. I just feel horrible for the people of Japan.

Stephen

I'm obviously frothing at the mouth for Epic but there is no way that I can feel any real disappointment when cast against the light of what happened in Japan. The most important thing is for those people to begin to put their lives back together. Epic will be here when it gets here. In the meantime I'm thankful to have my awesome Red One and business coming through the door. Life is good. :001_smile:

Hey Jim,
Just saw this. Don't be hard on yourself, we're all here and not going anywhere. Relax and take the time you need! I appreciate the transparency and your continued fight to bring us Epic.
Take care my friend and don't worry!

Yeah man, I've been one of the ones who's been quite critical about the delays with RED, but this is totally out of your hands. When I read your posts, I really get the sense of a guy who's in despair. I can totally understand that. You've got all the hard bits done and now this throws another spanner in the works. Don't worry man, everyone fully understands the situation with Japan. Can't wait to see all the new flicks shot on the Epic, whether it's an X or an M.

Smoke a doob, drink a beer, switch off all communication and take some chill time :)

I would have been surprised if there was no delay as a result of the disaster in Japan. The devastation is so intense and widespread that even if the Japanese industrial facilities were not damaged, the degree of human suffering and tragedy alone would have a real effect.

With so much of the infrastructure absolutely destroyed there will certainly be very deep and prolonged impact.

Don't sweat it Jim, 9.0 earthquakes. Tsunamis and Nuclear crises are not your fault. Sure any delay may disappoint, but we understand. So long as this won't send you into financial ruin and stop production, then we'll get through it. It's the home stretch. If it does throw you into financial ruin, open the gates and let us put our deposits in, that way you can look on the bright side of any delay, you can make a bit of interest (Joking to you serious people)

I'm aslo curious to know how it will affect Scarlet. Early you had mentioned 8x being affected. Can you push the 2/3 up if it is not? I'm actually more keen to get this one, in addition to the 8x and Epic S.

What you are saying is not humourous and I find it offensive. People in Northen Japan are dead and dying every minute and parts for Red are not priority. We, meaning all members of this group from around the world should be doing whatever we can in our local communities to help. This severity of this disaster in Japan will take decades to recover from and could very well render areas inhabitable for tens of decades.
I could say more but I won't .
Brian
You are very easily offended. Oh, and I wasn't being humorous... o.k., maybe a little. But you can't stop the world. I suspect you are too young to have an opinion. Get some real world experience and then offer one.

I am offended that you would characterize my post as offensive.

Well, it wasn't predictable, it was impossible for RED to even factor this one in! So don't stress... it's all understandable,
If one EPIC-X goes out, at least people know this are going on right?
To be honest, the fact that EPIC-Ms are out should already scream to everyone, its RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER...
Safe to say people will have their EPICs in 2011...
Till then, use whatever tools are at the ready, RED Ones are still around as well as DSLRs and all, EPIC would make life easier but it isn't necessarily going to hold up ones ability to make a video/film...

Jannard, RED Team, relax, your on track as far as promises go right? It'll happen this year... things happen that our out of the control of us humans....

Jim,

Appreciate the update, honesty and transparency...nobody else that's building cameras would tell us anything...I can wait, take your time, relax, not worth stressing over...when you have all the parts, you will get them out...I for one am thankful to have my RED One working for me in the meantime.

I held Epic M in my hands the other day, when Ketch and Joseph visited Michael/Aquavideo in Florida, what a beautiful thing you've built for us.

All good things are worth waiting for...

Best,
Frazier

I am so happy with my RED ONE-M so any delays won't matter. It feels like the combination of REDcolor2 and REDlogFilm has finally brought out the beast. 10,5 stops or whatever was promised. Sure MX or even Epic would be nice, but I need what I got right now and here.

Jim, look after yourself. No point bringing up Baby if you can't enjoy seeing it run.

Take a lead from the Japanese. Meditate. Take an hour a day and just forget everything and chill. The world will still be there when you open your eyes. And so will we be. Grinning like idiots, awaiting the amazing cameras you're bringing us. When? When it happens.

To Jim,
That is a hard time.
First For you, your team, the redusers... You put so much efforts , present so much willing to deliver the best pro camera system to the world. There are so many things that you can change.
But the disaster in Japan. You couldn't nor know in advance nor prevent it ! There's nothing you could have done to avoid it. And knowing the situation for past 3 weeks, we expected to have delivery problems from Japan ( 4 Nikon factories seem to be cloed/destroyed).

And as you said, people there are working under deadly doses of radiations. Shall some of us complain?

You are followed by a smart and strong, ... community ! These people are believers ! They trust you. And I think they'll support you ! (they are already).
So please, try to get a bit less worry... You're gonna go through this and be successful at the end.
Take care

Have to strongly disagree Brian. One of the best therapies is getting people back to work and their minds off their troubles 24x7. If you had read the latest news reports, people are already banding together to get their businesses going again.

Global tragedies of this magnitude are fortunately rare, but still deeply sad. We are all grieving in some way. We all grieve differently; some with humor, some with anxiety, some with heightened sensitivity, etc.

Cut each other some slack.

One of my most joyful moments of the last year was when Ted walked up to me at Red Day at NAB, and placed the epic prototype in my hand. Sorry if that sounds superficial.

I will grieve some more. I will feel joy again. I will work with others to get past this. Together we will all find ways.

Most sincerely, good luck. We can all use some right now.

Jim, you know if't worth it, every second of it.
And if for a moment you forget, there will always be someone from the extended family of RED to remind you it is totally worth it!
You know what's not worth it? Stressing over it.
Like you said life is more important, including yours so I hope things ease up a bit. :-)
You know everyone who's entered the world of RED has stuck with you through thick and thin and we'll be there for you to remind you it is worth it.

Thinking of the people of Japan and the heroes wasting away in radiation for the rest of us, really puts things in perspective. I don't know what the best outcome may be for that situation but I am hoping and praying.

So if there comes a time when you don't know what to do and you end up stressing, just take a few deep breaths and a step back to let the dust settle and you will feel better.
You have delivered Epic to the world, quantity is not important important at this point, only life.

One small delay for Red cameras, and a bit more stress for you is totally fine compared the event that caused the delay. Anyone with a heart will understand your reasons here.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this camera being out there, but I know a few months won't kill it.

Good things take time. Take it, enjoy it. This is a process you won't get to go through again, and when your blood pressure settles down Jim, you may look back and wish for more of the same.

I'm shooting on 35mm 3-perf right now and loving it, but in a bittersweet, last-kiss-to-the-ex-girlfriend sort of way. I know there's a new flame coming, I've seen glimpses of her . Her sister Redone was also purty sure, but I'd seen photos of the younger sister while I picked her up for a date and couldn't get them out of my mind.

Im unhappy, but not surprised at the level of combined aggregation of delays, to what was always in my view, an unrealistic development schedule.
REDs openness takes the sting out of the disappointment of customer expectations, expectations which are far higher than industry norm.

Although I personally don't appreciate all aspects of REDs marketing :) I am impressed that they have strived to try and deliver their very high technical goals for Epic rather than be derailed by market forces or a force majeur.
