  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Backpack / case for lightweight travelling Scarlet kit?

Michael was wondering if the tilopa would really fit in carry on, it says it will in the webpage but it seems huge. This was definitely my favorite....

Hey Ben,

For my wildlife work, I use the Kata VB-510. I've taken it deep into the field for days and it's really comfortable first and foremost. I find the way that it's organized is very simple and intuitive. Access to most pockets from outside, as well as a really handy tripod sling on the outside that holds your tripod secure with two thick straps. I have a lightweight Manfrotto carbon fiber set of sticks that I use with this bag for trekking and it works like a charm. It even has a flat slot in the backrest area to slide a 17" Macbook pro and a graycard.

I bought this Dakine bag and I absolutely love it. It fit our
Scarlet with top plate and side rib
Redmote, Red LCD, DP4, 2 160w v mount bricks,
wooden camera a adapter
Redmags (in hard eva molded plastic hard drive cases which are plenty tough for them)
and a few lenses (24-105, 35mm f1.4). An entire shooting kit on your back
Including my MBP 17"
Once it's loaded up it is around 35-40 pounds but it is still very comfortable and the tightening straps and size are top notch. You can fit them on any plane (even puddle jumpers depending on the luggage bins)

6pm also has the cheapest price right now. I don't work for them, I just got the bag from them, and it arrived in perfect condition.

Dedotec makes a very nice backpack that is very sturdy and ergonomic. It is not carry-on size, but it does have very big compartments. I had it with me in Brazil with a ton of gear in it including a laptop, a reflector, two light stands, a microphone boom, a field mixer, batteries and chargers and lots of assorted odds and ends. Fully packed it was about 21 kg. It was actually the only equipment bag we had in addition to a tubular Sachtler tripod case. One feature that I really like about it is that you can hide the carrying belts behind a cover with a zipper.

You can carry on the Tilopa. I carry on the Satori which is 14 liters larger. Now they can always bust you on the weight issue but for some reason they let you go if you explain there is expensive camera gear inside it.

Shooting in the Philippines, including Davao, all this week. So the Lowepro Pro-Runner 450 bag is packed up with Red and Canon gear for a full one-man including audio production. I'll also be taking a monopod and heavy duty tripod, so total weight will be around 35K all told. Plus some shirts :-)

The lavalier mics and other stuff are in the lid. I normally insist on Business Class flights so that we can get all of it onboard in hand luggage without argument, and for the extra allowance on checked luggage like tripods, LED lights and Pelican cases. If the client doesn't want to pay for that, then I let someone else bust his ass on that job.

Nice kit Paul - so I am not seeing the 70-200 in the pack, so a few things are in another...?
