  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Backorder Update - November 8

Thanks for the updates Jarred.

I was hoping mine would be here this week, but I couldn't make it to the event. Turning down work isn't fun. The best part is when they say... you got a RED? We're willing to wait. Tell us when you have it :)

On another note, I ordered my 5inch Touch LCD (can't use yet obviously) but this is the finest machined LCD I've ever seen and the thing is built like a tank. That was ordered Nov 3rd and shipped along side my 64 SSD a few days later. First real product from RED and this thing is masterfully designed and extremely well machined. My small HD is nice but this touch is a work of art.

Hmmmmm, I ordered mine on the 3rd as well with the Scarlet, but it hasn't shipped. My Rep said they are backordered now even though they show as in stock on red.com. Heck, the stuff I ordered on the 22nd still hasn't shipped (I did get a fedex tracking number, but it hasn't ship-shipped, just shipping info received).
I sent in my R1 for the MX upgrade and it took a week round trip, so I know they can ship quickly!
/trying to be as patient as I can, really!

UPDATE: my order from the 22nd of November was actually shipped today December 5th. Still no word on Scarlet or accessories.

I actually bought my LCD on the 3rd according to my online account too, just a bit later than my Scarlet X. There was an issue that my rep mentioned; it was in stock on the website but not really in stock. I complained as I didn't want my funds tied up for an item that wasn't available. They did refund me, then it came back in stock and I called my rep and he processed it again immediately and it went to shipping and was sent. A very nice guy, I believe Michael, emailed me and straightened it out right away. I don't know if they sped up the process for the mistakes they made originally or what, but it went right out.

The only thing I can assume is they are really, really overwhelmed with new orders which sucks now for us, but is honestly great if you think about it. it means they are a growing company, who will continue to succeed and be around for years to come. I'm sure they are all really good people trying to do their best. What I think we all need to realize is just because Jarred, Jim etc are here in the forums, we can't hold them responsible for shipping delays. I mean RED has a staff that is entirely separate that handles these things in the office. It isn't like Jim and Jarred are packaging these things and mailing them, so we probably shouldn't get on their case as much as we do here.

I think it is good to voice the experience for others coming as it should be an honest forum. What I can say is I'm the type of person that is very pro-active and if I can't find an answer I call and ask. It isn't that great of an experience when you are waiting, but even worse when you call a company and no-one can really give you an answer. The thing is it is not because they don't want to help, they are all very cool, especially my rep Brian. They seem to either just not know to much about shipping like it is an entirely different department that they don't communicate with, or they are just not allowed to tell us. Either way, they are all very polite and want to help just don't have all the shipping details. I would suggest just calling and asking you rep what is going on.

Just logging on here to check for updates is cool, but very frustrating sometimes and I'm brand new to this. I can totally see where people are coming from but I think we have to realize something my friend pointed out to me today:

If you look at the history of RED, especially the Epic and now the accessories that are coming out for Epic/Scarlet etc, we have to realize the product is technically new as of this year. I feel that being in the forum everyday seems like an eternity waiting, but honestly I think the first Epics were only shipping mid year so that is actually pretty revolutionary they can bring another new camera same year along with all kinds of new products. Thinking about that makes me have a lot more patience while waiting.

On the bright side ... If it was a mediocre camera system, people wouldn't be this upset about delivery delays.

Great thing is all these accessories and components for my Scarlet X are capable of switching over to my Epic X when I finally buy that next year, and potentially future RED cams too.

Soo.... Ive been a bit consumed in work... stuck in aiprports... just completely lost in space.... I'm dizzy with not enough sleep and to much work... But hey! better to busy than not I always say.

So... To save me looking through hundreds of pages of back order blues... whats the latest on the Canon mounts... are we past day one orders yet? I'm going to call my first mount I open from the box.. "My little Unicorn " .. :))))

Now guys, I have a bit of info an I'm not sure if its right or if its wrong... But that new Build 2:05 the pictures are better! I shot with build 17 last week, same lenses.. put this 2.05 build on and I swear the images are better, smoother... everything.. Got them side by side now as I type...

Fuck i love this camera system!

OH and the PLAY BACK FUNCTIONALITY on set.. FRICKEN AWESOME!!! My Clients love it! I love it...
RED playback dudes... you ROCK!!!!!!!

Any word on the side handle ? I have a bunch of redvolts now and I'm afraid that when my Scarlet does arrive, I'll have no where to put all of these batteries...

I ordered my LCD on the 4th, and it came last week. I ordered my SCARLET on the 3rd at 1030 central time which would be 830 pacific standard. Hoping to have it before my Mexico trip on the 17th or I'll have to rent an EPIC from someone...

Hey guys I got a few rough estimates from my Bomb Squad rep. I'm not sure if these are just overall estimates or if they are estimates based on my purchase date. I believe most of this was ordered between October 28 and November 1, but I assume these are not specific to my order. Most of this is not great news as they are LONG LONG after what Jarred estimates were at the start of this post (except Canon mount).

DSMC Side Handle - estimated 3-4 weeks
REDmote - estimated 4-6 weeks
DSCM Ti Canon Mount - 2-3 weeks

It was also noted that these are subject to change at any time. Also keep in mind that there is a 3-5 day processing time once they are available to ship.

I hope you didnt just get your rep in trouble.

I think it's fair we all get information on our orders. Lack of communication is never healthy. I would hope my rep does not get in trouble for providing satisfactory customer service. I also doubt a rep would get in trouble since it was in a private email, while I was the one that made a public post about it.

I think the reps are simply estimating on their inside info, which isn't guaranteeing anything, so there would be no need for anyone to get into trouble. This is a forum where we all come to find out things, and lately it has been dates and estimates of shipping. This is all good info. I don't see any harm in letting us know about simple estimates, especially since they are just trying to help and mentioned the disclaimer that anything can change anytime.

My rep hasn't told me anything regarding shipping dates at all. In fact mentioned that they honestly can't provide a realistic deadline or even an estimate now as they are so busy so he wouldn't even feel comfortable estimating. I didn't love that response, but I respect it. I'm not sure why your rep could have that info, so we can all assume these are just guesstimates.

One thing my rep did tell me is that even that 3 - 5 day processing time has temporarily turned to an almost 10 day average for processing orders at the moment.

Glad I just bought a VF IDX backpack. If there is a 50/50 chance of getting my scarlet before Christmas it would be really frustrating to not be able to use it outside. :)

This is definitely true. I recieved my Bomb EVF email about 5 days ago from my Bomb Squad rep but have not recieved the DHL email until today. Although, i know they are trying their best to get things out as soon as possible. You can imagine how hectic it is for them right now, with the huge demands on all products, but rest assured, the items will eventually arrive!

Cheers,

Martin, just out of interest, when did you order the evf?

... whats the latest on the Canon mounts...

Mine was next day, 8/27 and is being delivered tomorrow. things are starting to move.

One thing my rep did tell me is that even that 3 - 5 day processing time has temporarily turned to an almost 10 day average for processing orders at the moment.

I wonder if this is related to some email problems my rep said they've been having... I placed an order for some in-stock accessories last Monday morning, thinking they are in-stock so they should process and ship immediately, but I was notified by my rep by email the next day that my order (SSDs, reader, cables) was ready for processing and needed written confirmation to begin, even though I had thought they switched to a new system of processing web orders without requiring personal email confirmation (apparently this is only for Scarlet body orders?). So I responded by email immediately thinking it should process and ship immediately or at least in 3-5 days. 4 days later my rep calls me and says he never got my confirmation by email because of some email issue they were having where all reply emails got rejected. Anyway, this added at least 5 days to my order processing time and I bet if there were a lot of similar issues the backlog of lost order confirmations could have set them back several more days.

I still really don't understand why they would need a separate email/phone confirmation for my order in the first place. They acknowledged that this was an unnecessary and slow system for the many Scarlet orders coming in, why would it make any sense for even smaller orders? I could understand notification of processing of backorders or pre-orders or hugely expensive orders, but I mean if I placed an order for an in-stock item I expect it to process immediately and ship. Why waste their rep's time doing personal confirmations of every order after customers already confirmed by pressing the submit order button? With this system it is not that surprising that things are going slowly.
