Hi everyone, I have a back focus problem with my zoom lens Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 AF-D. Focus doesn't remain precise if I zoom from 80 to 200 or viceversa. It's a lens problem or I have to adjust the RED back focus?

Thanks!

Michele

Depends, I have an 80-200mm and it holds focus pretty well throughout the range, no perfectly, but it's not too bad. I backfocused the mount specifically for the lens though.

It's certainly not equivalent to a proper CINE PL zoom, but for budget glass it ain't bad.

Back focus problems can be caused by either the camera or the lens. From your description it looks like the lens. I assume all other (wider) zooms work fine on the camera. If you have problem with the 80-200 your wide zooms would be very soft-unusable. There are procedures to determine the direction and amount of error using the camera as a precise collimation tool. Little too complicated to explain on the forum but I'll make a video for that time permitting.
In the mean time you can watch this one I made a while ago with the 11-16 Tokina- it should give you the idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo4Byk_rGDo
