Wow... I buy so much stuff there. That's really disappointing to hear.

This is shocking and horrible. Adorama's processing and shipping isn't as reliable as B&H, but overall they have been great to me.

Adorama and B&H are both run by the same religious minority. You can see that by the same religious observance on both, such as not being able to order anything from Friday to Saturday. I'm not justifying bad treatment of the workers, but there are many religious rules in play, so let's not jump to the obvious conclusions. But, basically, if you think Adorama is any different, well, think again...

B&H Photo Video warehouse workers describe alarming problems:

Exposure to dusts including fiberglass, benzene and asbestos, that led to chronic nosebleeds and skin rashes
Lack of access to water that led to some workers developing kidney stones
Being instructed to carry heavy loads alone, leading to musculoskeletal injuries
Workers required to work 13-16 hour shifts with only one 45 minute lunch break, and no other breaks
Verbal abuse including being called derogatory names
Little or no safety training
On one occasion workers were not allowed to leave the warehouse for more than 30 minutes during a fire that was filling the building with smoke
Retaliation against workers organizing a union

This is serious shit but it does happen EVERYWHERE and there are ways to deal with it OSHA. Your workplace is filling up with smoke you fucking leave or file a report.

Someones getting a 13-16 hour shift lucky them. Id love one. Derogatory names try working in a kitchen, or once again, ANYWHERE.

Unions are a fight, always. Thats the point. In reality - in what is acted out in the real world.

I buy hell lot of stuff from them since the last decade and half and they have been very reliable and they travel the extra mile to help customers. The practitioners of the religion of B&H owners have been the worst persecuted perhaps in the history of mankind, so I find it a bit hard to believe that they can discriminate. I guess there may have been other issues as well. Hope there is resolution of the issues soon.

Focusing on religion leads to more dividing and polarization of people.

Each great religion has a wealth of wisdom in its teachings and moral code, it just depends on which type of character it lands on and how it's interpreted, and each has multitude of followers able to keep moral conduct and fairly treat a fellow man.

Man is defined by his character.
This is a matter of company leadership work ethics, not religion.

As long as people keep focusing and obsessing on race/religion/gender/sexuality/whatever, blind to flaws and virtues of shapeable character directly determining their destiny, and potential of cooperation and fusion of knowledge and achievements, they maintain divided, polarized, disempowered and used as cattle/cannon fodder, and Humanity stays locked inside a loop of a zombified state of inertia.

Dream a world into existence.

Being religious is neither an explanation or an excuse for being a dickhead or for treating anyone so shoddily and for people to comment on the owners' religion as though that somehow explains everything is crass at best.

Do you have a problem with comprehension? Read my post again, if you must:
"I'm not justifying bad treatment of the workers, but there are many religious rules in play, so let's not jump to the obvious conclusions".
And while you're at it, why not say something about female genital mutilations, honor killings, prohibition of women drivers and the general application of the rules of Sharia Law?
Nothing is that simple. That is why I made a point, that behind every sensationalistic headline, there are may be some other religious considerations governing use of bathrooms in play. In this country we even have rules governing which gender can use which stalls. Personally, I think we spend way too much time dealing with bathroom use. Sure, there are rules governing workplace and they do not allow for any kind if religious interpretations, but let's not call them dickheads right away, because we just do not know all the facts.

HOLY CRAP; B&H are doing all of that too!?! That's crazy!

I wasn't referring to or responding to you but rather adding to the post above mine speaking of the wisdom of religions etc vs people taking responsibility for themselves.

I was making the point that religion is irrelevant in this instance and it feels crass for it to become part of the dialogue. I haven't read the headlines - just the actual letter to B&H. It's a matter of worker's statutory rights and it's 2017 and we are trying to send people to Mars - there's shouldn't be any space in the world for a religious interpretation of when a grown adult employee should be allowed to use the bathroom FFS.

No idea wtf you're on about sharia law for and FGM. I'm allowed to think more than one thing is terrible at the same time. It's not a competition.

I think we have another confused contributor, who doesn't know the difference governing various types of religion. Look up Sharia Law...

That's like saying 'look up the Crusades' or 'look up the Westboro baptist Church' or 'check out the Salem witch trials'.

I know plenty of female muslims and they all drive thank you very much. Big difference between Islam and a horrifically repressive and backward Government enforcing things like that.

I understand it's hard to read sarcasm, but I think you're the confused contributor. Here is what we know; there are accusations of unfair treatment in the workplace. You say you don't condone that, but then also say, '... but don't jump to conclusions, because there are religious rules at play...' Religious rules that what? Somehow make it okay to (allegedly) treat workers like shit? That's a pretty big logic flaw on your part. Besides, I don't think the article (or the filed complaint) mentions religion at all...

Actually, take it a step further; someone said Adorama is the same religious minority... are their workers complaining too?

Ben's statement is objectively accurate. So to insinuate he has no problems with sharia law (even though that's entirely unrelated as it has absolutely nothing to do with this B&H situation, and hence not necessary to mention) is just kinda stupid.

Please read my statement again, because nowhere do I justify any kind of cruel treatment of workers based on a religion. I mentioned the religion, because writer very conveniently "forgot" to mention it. B&H and Adorama is run by a very observant religious minority, which can't easily be overlooked. I don't condone cruel treatment of people, period. What I'm proposing, is not jumping to any kind of conclusions and start calling people dickheads and call for a boycott, based on a single article. Recently Amazon was accused of similar mistreatment of it's workers, but I don't see people stopping to shop there. Let's face it, any large company sooner or later will be accused of misdeeds. Anyway, the point I was making, is any kind of mistreatment based on any religion is wrong, but there are must be a certain type of sensitivity, based on customs and religious affiliations. But a little perspective wouldn't hurt either. For example, some religiously affiliated hospitals refused to provide contraceptives, based on their believes. I don't recall anyone starting to call them dickheads and asking for their closure. So, come down and let government do it's part. In these types of cases government agencies can actually be quite effective...

I officially call those people dickheads and the people refusing contraceptives dickheads* as well and I absolutely do not have to be sensitive to someone else's beliefs if they actively trample on someone else's rights as a human being.

I don't care what you believe, what you think or what you feel. I care what you DO. If you do ill I don't care about which book gave you an excuse to do it.

* Over here dickhead really isn't a strong term.
