Getting ready to do a doc style shoot and need some suggestions on a b-camera. Planning on renting and looking at the canon xc-10. Looking for 4k. Thoughts on Osomo? Any input or success stories appreciated!

Budget is going to restrict that- I should have specified. Looking for in the A7s, GH4, XC-10, budget range.

I'd go A7S, but be careful with settings. It does not shoot raw. That way you have a camera that you can use to do additional things in low-light should you need it. I mixed A7S and Epic in the past, and it worked fine. FYI A7S footage was recorded on an atomos shogun.

A7s is handy to have on hand in case you need a low light camera.

my post dissapeared? weird, gh4, vlog, pix e5, you should be able to match

Black magic Microstudio4K ($1295 list) with a 7" BMD video assist 4K ($895) for recording the 4K output. With a simple handle mount or cage can work as well as many of those other cameras for "normal" b-cam work and is handy for a lot of other things as well where an extremely compact camera is useful.

And the 7" VA4K is very useful as well for recording PROres or DNXHD from any other source.)

GH4 with an external recorder, but only if you have a cage/ aren't moving the camera much. The HDMI connection is a fickle bitch 90% of the time, however for the price the image is great.

Great input everyone- does anyone have any examples of mixed footage between dragon and (insert camera here)?

Here is something I shot with a mix of Epic Dragon and A7s recording 4k through the Atomos. Can you tell which is which? :)

I've really enjoyed the GH4, got it as a crash cam originally, but the compact lenses, nice picture, etc. make it a handy little tool on lots of shoots. Sounds like a second Raven wouldn't ship until next year

If I were to get extra cameras this is what I look at:

Low Budget = G7 (Mini GH4, 4K)
Budget = GH4 (4k, 1080 96fps), NX1 (4k, 1080 120fps), A6300 (4k)
Midrange = A7s (Low light), Canon XC10 (4k), RED One, DJI Osmo w/ X5
High & Beyond = A7s II (Low light, 4K), Panasonic DVX200 (All around 4k camcorder), Ursa Mini 4.6k, Sony FS5 w/ RAW upgrade, Sony FS7, RED Scarlet+

Shoot well and capture the story.

a7s w/ atomos or an a7sii. Cine-4 and s-log3 gamma match pretty well with Dragon Color 2.
