Hey guys. I'm not selling anything. Just want to share. I spent a few days in a machine shop and designed some custom parts to complement my ALLSTAR handheld rig.
I made an aluminum plate that connects to the back of the camera with tapped holes to mount the RED Cradle and the RED battery plate. This not only dramatically lowers my center of gravity, but it also lets me set the camera down without the ALLSTAR shoulder pad touching the ground.
I also made a quick release LCD mount out of a small block of aluminum and a RED wingnut. This allows me to quickly move the LCD to any point along the 19mm rods.
And lastly, I made an EVF mount based closely on the Zacuto model. The only difference is that since the ALLSTAR shoulder pad raises the camera, I designed this mount to allow me to lower the EVF really low.

Mr.Quintana,

Would you mind if I asked how much did you spend on this rig?

Mr.Quintana,

I spent $900 on the ALLSTAR hand held rig, $100 on the RED wingnuts, $75 for a used RED universal mount. The machined parts cost me nothing because I did the labor myself and I used scrap aluminum parts at the machine shop.

Thanks, Michael. I am pretty proud of this setup. It is really comfortable. Hopefully ALLSTAR will take this design and mass produce it for everyone. It really makes things a whole lot easier.

Perfect!
Elementt must be trembling.

Really nice work Julio... congratulations man!

Hi,Julio
I have made new "tools free" cradle mount, lowers center of gravity is really important.

I can`t (I don`t want to) make the evf mount, Zacuto has made it already.
However, thank you support my products, and you are also a good designer.:gnorsi:

Im very impressed, good work and it will work very well Im sure.

Awesome cradle mount. That definitely lowers the center of gravity. The only problem I see is that if you want to put the camera down, it will have to rest on the cradle, or the shoulder pad, and I don't want to damage either one.

Julio,

I also like how your plate allows the option of direct mounting of the battery plate, without the cage.

Thanks Kyle. That was actually the original configuration I was going for and I was planning on mounting the cage on the side of the camera somehow. It wasn't until I had finished the plate that I realized I could just tap one more hole to attach the cradle.

Julio built this just before working with me on a feature. His add-ons with the Allstar shoulder rig feel very nice and balanced. I wasn't used to having such a big "tail" on the back of my camera (and in tight confines) but it was nice to take my hands off the handles and feel the camera balanced on my shoulder.

Michael

Michael's totally right. The plate with the cradle sticking out of the back can be a real hazard in small places. An AC can loose a tooth if the thing is swung around too quickly. Oh well. Maybe Epic will solve all of our ergonomic needs...
