Still waiting on Side Handle and RedMote via Fedex.

Congrats Alonzo! Grew up in Buffalo. Good to see RED cameras in the home town!

Hey Owen! Thanks. Where's bouts in Buffalo? I'm not sure there is another RED in Buffalo, but glad to know someone who is using them. What do you do now? I live in NYC for 13 years but came back ten years ago. i mainly do 3D animation but will expand into Live action VFX.

Have you been up all night Alonzo?? ;-)

Congrats!

Please - More info on your 'railroad'

Please - More info on your 'railroad'

.. please ! More images of your 'railroad' & info on how you built it (got it fab'd).
Looks very interesting !

TIA -

Yes, indeed @Todd, missed church this morning tho'. ;-)

Thanks @Rod, It's the closest thing I have to a rig. I'm not a Pro cameraman so to see all the should rigs and Matte box is a real learning experience for me. I'm happy that I can get my Scarlet on a tripod.

@Serge, this is not really a DIY. It's just a GlideTrack on a Manfrotto Tripod. http://www.glidetrack.com/

Hey Alonzo,

Congrats on the Scarlet and nice to see that EIAS users are well represented here. Waiting by the window for FEDEX myself right now. Be joining you soon.

Bill

Hey Alonzo,

Sorry I missed your reply several months ago. Loving the Scarlet. Its the camera I've been waiting 22 years for since I first moved to digital. I bought this camera for the same amount that a post house charged a client of mine to convert a 1 minute filmed segment to SD digital and back to analog form around 1993. Things have certainly changed!

You still doing EIAS or are you all Maya now?

Bill

PS... nice rig

Hey Bill,

Glad it's working out and you got your Scarlet for a good price (If I understand correctly). I totally relate to your long awaited anticipation for a 4K capture device. I wanted to work with 4K ever since Solitaire slide scanners and since I first saw in Cinefex that ILM scanned their 35mm film for effects, but I never thought it would be direct capture from the camera into 4K or I would have one. Wow is right. Things have changed.

Yes, I work mainly in Maya but EIAS3D.com is still a bread and butter moneymaker for me. Often I do models or animation in Maya and export them to EIAS for users just needing to render a figure. Also I still produce rig tutorial DVD's annually for the community. http://www.eias3d.com/forums/topic/5590-new-human-rig-dvd/

This project I did for a EIAS client who needed Storks for the babies. I don't have original but I heard it won 2 awards. ;-)

I'm using the Scarlet which I got Feb 2012 to focus on VFX. Since I'm just getting started I'm interested in doing modest budget work. However, I still do 3D work for larger corporate clients.

My goal is to do my own independent 3D/live action films. So I do a lot of Zbrush modeling lately. Almost there. ;-)

Here's a sample characters.

Hey Alonzo,

First off , nice work as always. Love the storks.

Actually what I meant to say was not that I got my Scarlet at a discount, but rather how expensive post house fees used to be for services that these cameras have made obsolete. :-)

I too love doing VFX work. It was what got me started in film work and that played a big part in my decision to go with RED. What really sold me was the fact that I had been shooting stills in RAW since about 2000. The flexibility of the RAW file led me to discuss a theoretical motion picture camera that would shoot RAW with a good friend. We both saw it as the future. A year or so later my friend sent me a link to RED's web site with a note that it's happening. The Scarlet program provided the opportunity to buy in and I'm thrilled with the camera. Literally everything that I've dreamed of having on the ideal camera has been implemented, not to mention many things I'd never thought of. Still getting used to using a 5" monitor rather than an optical viewfinder but I'll adapt.

Would like to work on more independent projects but don't often have the time . Did get a chance to help out with a friends web series for a few days but didn't have the time to become as involved as I would have liked to.Turned out really nicely. Not a Red shoot as the Scarlet was not out at the time and he couldn't wait any longer.

Anyway, glad to see your doing well. I suspect we'll keep tabs on each other either on this forum or others we haunt.

Yes, I basically am interested in VFX and incorporating my 3D graphics workflow into the pipeline. Doing 3D and knowing big VFX were scanning 35mm in 4k always had me interested some digital capture solution. So as you mentioend, RED Scarlet was an excellent entry into the genre. Epics coming down to $19k is also very appealing.

Looks like with the +1 module for both the EVF both the TouchScreen may be a solution for you.

I just got a PL Mount for my Scarlet. Wow! Who have thought this stuff would be available to the indie 3D artist? ;-)
