  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Avid's new Red Native workflow

A workflow that i have been playing with is;

1)make a HD/175 project, link everything in there, work out the kinks, and butterfly the show with the off-line Qt.. then once i have producer sign off;

2)then open the timeline in a RED 4K project with 4.4.4 proxies for gradeing and final tweaks.. then once i get sign off's again;

3) Playout the proxie timeline to HDSR, and switch off the proxies to render DPX for film out

this way the 4K RED files are only changed when rendered to DPX for film out, and you get the advantage of HD's speed when you need it... and 4K's quality when you need that...

Forrest, I have been trying unsuccessfully for weeks to run DS 10 under bootcamp on a MBP (current version). I don't believe this is possible. Yet, I still pray someone will prove me wrong.

Anyone?

Hi John,

You don't say what your problem is, but try the following:
1. Open the nVidia control panel and go to 'Manage 3D settings'
2. Click the 'Program Settings' tab and click 'Add' to add a new program
3. Select the ds.exe from C:\Program Files\Avid\DS_v10.1
4. In the settings list, scroll down to "Threaded Optimization" and set it to OFF
5. Click apply

It's worked for me and many others - I have DS v10.1.1 running under Bootcamp with this fix,

Regards,
Tone :)

This is also true of all other DI systems that directly support R3D through the SDK. For example, Pablo must import the files first before they can be played back in real time (or worked on).

Film Master also needs to import the files although they can be colored and worked on even before they are fully imported--kind of how DS links to R3D files.

A Baselight Transfer (or other modern Baselights) can play back 2k "Good" quality realtime via the SDK. This is with no importing, just directly linking to R3D files like we would link to MXF/Quicktime.

Thanks for that correction Martin.
