I don't think so. The popular opinion seems to be they're going to continue Avid as is and actually hire more people to improve the software over time. I thought that the first casualty would be the Nexis servers, but apparently those are actually selling very well, so those arent going away just yet.

It does prove that the markets for business like editing software and other post-production tools is limited: you sell a certain number of seats, then it becomes an upgrade market from that point on. Not a lot of new customers are buying these tools.

I keep hearing rumors that Dolby might buy Pro Tools, but so far, it's just a rumor.

I remember Softimage DS great tool being bought and killed by Avid. I wish them the same bright future.
DS was so a superior editing tool and was a threat to Avid. They must have some nice patents for security tool that might be worth 1.4 billion?
