AVID Software Announcement Next Week

Yes. And their announcement is... You guessed it. On November 3rd. :yesnod:

Anybody else wish to make a big announcement on the 3rd?! Why don't we just close down NAB and move everything to online announcements Nov 3 each year.

Looking forward to this... 1pm EST / 5pm GMT.

One of the many highlights that I have seen in previews is the ability to use a grading panel within MC! I'm hoping support opens up for surfaces other than the AVID ARTIST COLOR. Preview here.

All the best,

Just finished watching the MC6 presentation and then asked Avid about 3rd party colour control surfaces and the answer was that the only colour control surface supported is the Avid Artist Color via EUCON. Shame but maybe that will change in the future!

MC6 is out soon... I can't wait!

All the best,

HDRX parameter control sounds nice, cant wait to see it work in person. From Avid's website:

Lets you recover potentially lost dynamic range by extending and
balancing highlights, taking into account the rendering intent of the
desired Kelvin and Tint white balance. Click and drag the slider from
0.00 to 1.00. Default is 0.00.

While MC v6 supports Epic, it does not support HDRX. A white balance picker has been added to the source settings. Ability to control HDRX for the two channels of exposure would be done in RXCPro and transcoded to Avid DNxHD of choice.

Michael,

How in the world can Avid redo a UI and not add magnetic/dockable windows? It's like some bad joke.

That would be a question for the Product Owners and designers. As an FYI, I was part of the RIF last week, so I won't have any insight to share from here on out. On to new exciting adventures!

Michael

Michael, what is an "RIF?"

I think he may be referring to the restructuring going on at Avid.

By the way, just so you guys know I have met Michael and he is a good guy and has been a great contributor here at Reduser. He has been involved with Avid from the early days and was very instrumental in the development of things like Film Composer. A good resource to have here.

WTF? Am I reading the tea leaves properly? Is Michael no longer w/ Avid?

RIF stands for Reduction in Force, or another way of saying I was laid off. I will participate as much as I can, but can no longer speak to Avid's plans or priorities. It was a good 21 year run! I have lots of projects in the works as well as some product development I am looking to do that just got funded as a startup. Details over the next several weeks.

Perhaps Avid will participate in this forum as Avid, but again, I don't know the plans moving forward for the company. Thanks Steve for the kind words, we need to get together for lunch again and catch up.

Thank you Michael for being around here so long and as much helping so generously.

All the best...

AGREE 100%!

Thank you Michael for all of your awesomeness. Seriously. If it wasn't for you on Reduser helping everyone out back when Avid had dropped the ball on RED support, Avid would be dead by now IMHO :) You led them through the dark times, man. Now at least they have a fighting chance.

At one point in a feedback form to Avid, I wrote to them that their #1 priority should be to "get more people like MichaelP on REDUSER". Seriously. If after you go, Adobe becomes the only NLE with a personal contact on Reduser, then Avid will have screwed up royally.

ANYWAY - all the best with your new projects! You seem like a very nice, very creative and very smart guy - so please keep us informed here of everything you're up to!

Well said Bruce  Michael is a legend.

Thank you for all your support on here and for all the hard work you've put into making Avid the editor that it is today.

I wish you all the best for your new venture - definitely keep us posted.

All the best,

Michael. Having recently gone through the same process - and now emerging from the other side - I feel for you. I'm sure your new venture will be a huge success. You will be missed.

I'm almost ready to forgive Avid now that apple has forgotten who's hands that's been feeding them too.

For years they made us pay up the ying yang for upgrades and giving us grieves with hardware incompatibilities.

They finally learn their lesson I think.

The new MC looks promising. I will download the trial.

Avid letting Michael go is the single most fucking idiotic thing I can remember reading Avid doing in a long time (and they do stupid things all the time). I am so absolutely pissed right now that I can't see straight. Are Gary and Kirk totally out of touch or just out of their minds? I need to chill for a moment or two before I comment more... I am just SO #*@&(*&$)#(@*&$(*&________________________________

I'm actually stoked that they kept the windows from being dockable. I've already developed a lot of muscle memory dedicated to chasing down obstructed windows. I certainly wouldn't want that to go to waste.

;)
