Hi! I have a question... can I use Avid Media Composer with the native red files?

Avid DS can work with the native R3D files, Media Composer requires a transcode step to SD or HD proxies first.

Are there any advances in the "Avid Media Access" field? Is a PC redcode codec all that's needed to be able to have RED native support in AMA?

Now that AMA is here, what is holding the evolution back? Isn't the door wide open for native RED now?

AMA allows for any third party to integrate into Avid Media Composer. So RED can certainly look into that for consideration. But AMA also assumes that it is a supported codec in addition to the metadata wrapper and that is where works still needs to be done. Basically greater than HD frame sizes and RGB color space.

Work is being done in the plumbing, but being a public company I cannot indicate any roadmaps or commitments beyond the quarter boundary.

The trailer looks great by the way - nice images. My last film is being represented by a sales agent out of Sweden and we have sold into four countries so far. I am at roughly 4x my original budget. :) it was a horror film as well, but closer to a psychological thriller that we crafted for the PG-13 market.

Wouldn't AMA be able to play out the R3D proxies if the proxies were playable on PC?
Can RED give any word about this? If AMA enables native direct editing it would completely change the map of the FCP vs AVID battles of RED.

Nice that you liked the trailer! :) I hope that your film does well!
