A question for Red- any plans to support MXF recording on board just like Prores either as Raw/MXF or Prores/MXF combination?

That would make it killer for most workflows. Every commercial/ drama transcodes any format to DNXHD36 (even Alexa Prores shoots) A no transcode camera that offered that plus eiither a Raw or Prores master would be massive.

Arri offered MXF on board but as a master format - no one wanted that. If you can do that even for a payable upgrade I'm sure lots would pay for it.

You'd sell less Rocket X cards but it would make the camera a hell of lot more desirable as an "easy workflow" option even over Alexa which would be very refreshing.....

Yeah, I'm up for that too, OP-Atom MXFs in DNxHD36 is a killer for feature film editing. Just pop out and start organize and edit. It would be the fastest way of handling editorial from a camera ever.

I don't mean "shoot > edit" as Arri market their cameras, because ProRes will need to be encoded or wrapped before use in real productions with hours and hours of footage. No, direct to OP-Atom MXFs is the key to proper Avid workflow and anyone who handled feature films knows that Avid is probably the best and most stable NLE for such a workload.

Exactly- you don't even need the processing overhead of the 10 bit X variants - just the 8 bit offline codes would do. Independent colour space/LUT for the offline and you are way ahead of the competition. I'm hoping this is a V7 firmware addition on the roadmap.......

This would be amazing..especially because i believe Premiere Pro will soon be DNX compatible. I'm Loving Avid Media composer tho.. didn't think i would, but i surely do

At least in OSX, Premiere reads MXF and works with them just fine. Just takes a bit longer to import. (like a lot).

Most important, the MXF needs to be OP-Atom, not OP1a. This mistake is made so many times, the Avid structure doesn't work with OP1a which is more common than OP-Atom.
Still, OP-Atom is playable in most applications which support MXFs.

+1 all the way for that... and in the background OMOD uploading DNxHD36 to Frame.io - Editor and Dailies watching Crew get everything almost instantly... just now the Sound guys need a way of their Tracks going there quickly too... maybe some OMOD Extension can handle that...

DNxHD115 is so much better to look at compared to 36. Of course I prefer 10 bit over everything else, but the render time on those extra two bits makes a big difference.
