Having issues with relinking ALE generated by Red Cine X, Instead AAF only relinking to MXF.

The main reason for wanting the ALE is to use multiple timecodes (both EdgeCode & Time of Day Timecodes).

Any idea on how to relink?

Once you've imported the AAF, select all clips, select File/Import. From the options, choose merge based on known sources, then OK. All ALE information will merge into the master clips.

I've just discovered some issues with this workflow on Avid Media Composer Version 5.0.0. I'm not sure if this has been fixed in later releases, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

If I create a new bin and just drag in the AAF files from Finder into the bin, select all the items in the bin then import the ALE afterwards (making sure "Merge Events with Known Master Clips" is selected), none of the extra columns are created in the bin with all the extra meta-data.

The workaround however is to import the ALE first (which creates all the extra columns in the bin), delete all those master clips (which keeps the extra columns there), then drag in the AAFs and relink the ALE (which populates the extra columns).

Hope this helps someone!

Chris!

5.03

Yep same issue in MC 5.0.3.
Awesome tips :)
Thanks!

Hmmm... I have yet to see this issue myself. You are selecting the last option in the Shot Log import, correct? Merge based on known sources?

Try following:

Update Mediacomposer to version 5.0.3 and apply patch 5.0.3.7

Then copy your MXF files into the Avid Mediafiles/MXF/1 (or what number, I would recommend a fresh folder of Avid Mediafiles and or number)
Leave the AAF files where they are for the first moment...
When the copy is finished you open the mediacomposer.
It should now update or create the mediadatabase /scan/indexing.
Then you open a new bin and please check that your project settings meets your media specification (I recommend only 1080 and your desired framerate with which the media was encoded out of RCX. It needs to be the same).
Then you import your ALE from RCX into this bin.
Now you should see all the clips inside but offline.
Mark the hole bin with cmd-a.
Right click and click relink.
UNCHECK the box "relink only to footage of current project" (thats important).
choose on top of the box the drive where your MXF data is located.
HIT relink and wait some couple of seconds....

does this work...????

best,
rainer
