Hi, trying to conform some Monkey Extracted footage in AVID. We're importing QT movies to an Avid Symphony Nitris system.

Everything is working fine until we come to sequences where there are multiple edits from one source shot, e.g. when dialogue is intercut.

We first rendered "Render only the frames used" which produced additional subclips with suffixes S001 etc. These are very time consuming to manually conform.

So we then re-rendered using "Render between min in and max out". This conforms, but all clips are at wildly wrong speeds, presumably because the master clip duration is totally different from the actual QT movie duration.

Any solution?

What do you mean by manully comforn? Do you not do a relink to selected based on tape name and timecode?

Michael

Thanks for the thought, but how do you identify which clips to batch import, and which to manually import then relink? Or are you suggesting that we should import all the QTs and relink them all?

Also anyway to force Avid to ignore the audio on import? We're still running 1.8.3 and it makes the import process rather manual, having to click "cancel" on every clip to ignore the audio?

The Step by Step guide on www.avid.com/red at the end talks to this process. Basically I do this:

- Edit offline - export EDL from Avid or XML from FilmScribe (depends on complexity of sequence - EDL's aren't that descriptive).
- Open in Monkey and render new QT based on selects + handles
- Use MetaCheater to create a new ALE - make sure the TAPE name is the same as what was used in the offline.
- Import ALE - merge new QT movies.
- Put offline sequence into same bin as new selects
- Select ALL then do a relink to selected based on tape name and timecode
- Seconds later you have a conformed sequence to the high rez files.

I do this all the time with my projects. As far as audio - I need to look into that.

Thank you Michael, that should work just fine.

I've decided just to delete the audio on the QTs before importing. Didn't take too long - fortunately the second camera didn't have any audio.

Hi Michael,

Any further down the audio track yet?

I need to convert about an hour a day (for about 100 days) and import into a unity system for offline. The crew wants to record guide audio on the camera as well as off board. Would be nice to be able to take the footage with audio directly off the R3Ds and convert to DnX ??.

Any thoughts??

Michael

So do you want the scratch audio or not? If so, change the ALE after import to reflect the track(s) you want to bring in.
