It has been discussed before on how to speed up magazine changes. Some of us would like an automatic format option (where a CF card gets automatically formatted upon insertion). Others are understandably very worried about accidentally formatting a card with data on it.
Here's an idea I would like to throw around:
Maybe RED could cooperate with e.g. R3D data manager, such as that R3D data manger places a special file on the card after confirmed copying. If - and only if - that file is present on the (otherwise empty) card, then the camera would automatically format the CF card upon insertion.
As standard, this option would be disabled. You would have to enable this function both in the camera and in R3D data manager.
That way you would have 3 levels of security for those who are worried about it. And those who work in documentary/situations where a quick magazine change is crucial, would be very happy.
