Author and Burn Blu-Ray Entirely on Mac?

How about these:

Will 2X media burn faster with the LG 6x drive?
No, but 4X media will.

Ten dollars per BD-R disk? Lol, they can keep them.
The lowest I've seen locally (Fry's) is about $7... BD-R is still pretty costly. Of course it depends on what you're using it for, and most people who are cutting edge enough to want the Blu-ray copy would be more than willing to pay a little extra for the 1080p version of whatever it is you're selling. In fact, having the ability to offer Blu-ray as an option not only reflects well on your company as an enterprise which is up-to-date and can cover a client's needs, but most times the premium that end users will pay for Blu-ray will more than make up that $7 difference. Anyway, you're right; we aren't in the era of 25 cent BD-R discs yet, but that doesn't mean they can't be very useful.

Cheapest I have found is $9 each on a spindle....but you can burn on a regular DVD and the Blu-Ray player doesnt know any better. Obviously if you have long content this isnt an option, but we do mostly commercial work, so they work just great.

I have the new Lacie 4X...real nice drive.

Resurrecting this thread to ask a few questions about Blu-Ray...

First, is anybody using this burner (LG BE06) and does anyone have any opinions/feedback, it seems as if the price has dropped quite a bit since its release (from $899 to $379, so it is getting more affordable)...

I'd really prefer an external burner that I can unplug from my tower at work and use on my Macbook Pro with USB 2.0

Second question, does anyone have an opinion on purchasing CS3 now to get Encore for Blu-Ray burning capabilities -- I guess what I am asking is, will there be an upgrade pathway to CS4 that won't cost me, or will this be one of those re-purchase scenarios. I don't really want to buy it now for Encore and then pay again, to get Adobe R3D support later in CS4. Or will I just be stuck doing that, if I want to have it both ways, right now?

Third, if I can re-encode in AE and make a DVD in Encore, is there any point to owning Toast? Or is that just redundant?

Also, since this application is for a trade show, would it just be cheaper and less hassle to just buy a used HD-DVD player for $150 and encode to HD-DVD in Compressor and burn to SD media? Any opinions on that option?

One last question: I've been told that Blu-Ray discs burned using Encore do not play back universally on all Blu-Ray players? True or not true?

Thanks for any help....
