Overwhelming customers? the ones testing the prototypes?

We have said that much of the delivery dates rely on a successful ASIC spin. We have also indicated that we are not going to rush to release given market conditions and the overwhelming opinion of our customers to put out a finished product and not a prototype. I wouldn't expect any type of update for a couple of months. The schedule should be more clear by then...

While I can't express how impressed I am with what RED's been doing, I just can't help but feeling let down. With all the freedom to announce delivery dates, why must they underestimate timeframes? I have no problem with a release a few months from now (or even later), but I wouldn't have any reason to feel let down if they hadn't already gotten my hopes up for an announcement of some sort by August.
I love what you guys are doing, but wish you'd be more conservative in your declarations. The "dates subject to change" disclaimer is fine, but why use it as a crutch at all?
No company I am aware of has been able to accurately predict major product releases half a year or more in advance. At the same time it is helpful to consumers to have some long range estimates so they can prepare for what is coming. Believe me, a lot of people would be pissed if they'd just purchased a Sony F35 and suddenly RED announced the S35 Epic was shipping in a week.
I remember the HVX200 was delayed quite awhile and that was from one of the major camera companies.
I am prepared for the DSMC system to come sometime within the next 12 months and that is way better then thinking RED has nothing new coming down the pipe.

I'm one of those people.
Who could complain about getting the Scarlet 2 months BEFORE they were announced to be released rather than two months after?
The EPIC/ SCARLET will be here around years end and who knows exactly what it will be other than kick ass.

Jim, does this mean that we would be wise to expect a delivery of the first batch in the last quarter of 2009?

4. The new releases are based on ASICs. Very complicated ASICs. Keep your fingers crossed that they actually work. We should know pretty soon.
