Is anyone using this? I've attempted to use it and although I've got it to work with some success on a few clips.. It crashes constantly and is for the most part unusable on my system..

Using what?

Li uses this tool on a regular basis. It's very powerful and is reliable enough to use on set or in post with big productions.
Couple things to check your settings with:
Set your Audio to 48048 (not 48000).
Also, you need to be feeding it pre-muxed BWF files. If you send it AIFFs or WAVs, you can only sync the first track.

The audio at 48040 is for 23.976 projects only, or is it the other way around?

If by any chance they are using a Cantar-X sound recorder, be sure that they set it in the A-Mode (i believe its what they refer to as barebones, C-Mode adjusts something on the TC/Samples so it works with Final Cut)

We did find a bug with multi-channel audio files, recently introduced in 339. It will be fixed, along with a crop issue, in the next release.

I cannot get the tool to work at all - tried all the above tricks, read the guide, searched the forums. It won't let me even choose an external file - they are greyed out. When I choose the folder, it selects external audio in the audio window, but does not appear to have actually changed from the on camera scratch track. And the audio ON camera now will not playback ever after save to RMD, reboot RCX.

Maybe someone could post a HOW TO GUIDE here? I'm usually pretty handy at figuring out software tricks, but this tool eludes me. Would be VERY cool if as Michael said I could use it onset for dailies...

Zaxcom Deva Fusion
wav files.. 3-6 tracks

Sounds like they already found a bug.. but I sent logs..

Michael are you saying to set audio override to 48048 for 23.976 projects?
Care to expand on the theory behind this?

I tested in 262 and 326 and both appear to work fine without crashing.. and works quite well.. very nice..

Hi Anson,

Some points:

1. When you Auto Match, you select a folder. The software will try to find the best match from every bwf audio file it finds in that directory.

2. Make sure your preferred playback channels are correctly set from the menu. We only allow the settings of two audio playback channels currently.

3. Once you have applied external audio to a clip, either via auto match, or manual sync, the new tracks will show up in the audio tool, so you can see the waveform.

Hope this helps!

David

I just discovered the AUTO MATCH feature in RCX but there is very little documentation about how it really works. Any further instructions out there would be awesome.

Michael,

This is info I've been looking for a long time. Quick story. Our sound mixer was replaced halfway through a small feature. Days 1-10 synched up perfectly out of Sound Devices 7441, The next mixer using the same gear accidentally changed the frame rate on days 11-16. Using Wave Agent we were able to re-conform to the proper frame rate BUT THESE FILES WILL NOT SYNC VIA REDCINE X. As you noted, just the first track syncs. So, I'm guessing when we reconformed using Wave Agent we did "something" not sure what. I suspect I have a "muxed" poly file where before I did not. Any ideas on how I can get back to a "pre-muxed BWF file?

Thanks very very much for this post. David

Could someone please explain in detail what it does and how it works??

in case of multitrack will there be more than 2 channels displayed in the ui audio panel?

I thought the only way to sync audio (except when using mc5) was using clipmeister.

So if I thinking right , if you would like to edit in ppro, you should export the r3d files again with the trimmed r3d export function and those audo files would be embedded???

Is there a maximum of audio channels, could you use the deva 16 ???

From the Interface it looks like it can concatenate the 4 audio tracks with the R3D file andn up to 8 from an external BWF file. You mention MC5, but AutoSync has been part of the product since the mid-90's. MC5 offers increased flexibility in which tracks you want preserved in the AutoSync'd clip for the editor to use.
