Audio recording equipment, what to get?

I need feasibility and I don’t have much in the budget (about $1000)

This is a Military camera originally used to shoot equipment in action but they (the brass) like the quality so much they want to expand the use to just about every thing. I know its a sin to shoot handeycam stuff with a RED One but they paid for it and most of the time it is used for things only the RED can do.

So far I am looking at this Zoom H4n Handy Mobile 4-Track Recorder $349.00
But I think I need a cam mic, a shotgun and a wireless what do you suggest?

Is it mainly for interviews (close ups) or remote distance shots (far away)?

I need to be able to do both but events may be most important.

Yeah that looks like a good list (If you can , try and get so LAV wireless mics cause doing those at distanced podium events - which are far from the camera is essential) .

There are 4 main sound input jacks I commonly would set up (without ADR).. are:
1. Wireless Lav Mics
2. Wireless Lav Mics
3. Boom wired mic
4. Hand wired mic

I presume your doing all this in 4k, and not using a mixer at the time. Unless you do a dual recording scenario and combine everything in post. Cause sometimes you can have some lower grade cameras and just use their sound. Or a remote recorder . I mainly do Documentaries and alot of speeches (podium group shots) so thats where I am coming from. For someone doing "real films" or feature length stuff.. they might have a vastly different set up.
