  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Audio Input on Base Expander

Really heavily considering the A-Box for my scarlet weapon.

Will i I need to buy anything extra to mount it to camera? I have the easy riser and 15mm bracket.

It comes with mounting.

Legit question, as I have a JuicedLink BMC366 (they only sell the 388 now), but it has 2 balanced outputs, and have been using it with my Scarlet Dragon perfectly for a pre-amp, and it sounds great imo (have the in camera pre-amp as low as it goes).

As the A-Box does not have any pre-amp in it, how does it compare, sound wise, vs using a pre-amp then inputting audio?

I've been using the A-box with my Scarlet-X and it works great, but I had phantom for a boom mic set-up/on camera shotgun. Since the Scarlet-W and expander base are both lacking phantom, I think the BMC388 might be a great inexpensive solution with the expander base. I like the OMOD XLR module, but it's an extra $2,500.

But doesn't the Scarlet-W require either the Base I/O ($1750) or Base I/O V-Lock Expander Module ($1900) to operate?

So... instead of buying either of these Base I/O expander modules plus an extra AUDIO solution (such as the A Box), wouldn't it make more sense to buy the OMOD XLR? You would definitely be paying a tiny bit more, but it seems a great solution ergonomically for this type of setup (unless I am missing something, which I probably am).

A Base I/O V-Lock expander modeule with an XLR conection would be lovely in any case. I wonder if that would be possible.

I'm trying to make it work with the base expander because thats what comes with the upgrade package and it is available now. Later once OMOD's are shipping and other options come available I'll go for the elegant solution. I completely missed that there was an a-box for weapon so that's what I'll get for now. The epic version was solid.

Yeah they are pretty brutal. They copied the View Factor APU-IDX Battery Plate, which VF sells for $699

I've seen the CamTree copy of this plate once and it was pretty cheap looking / feeling. The V-Lock battery was very easily kicked out of the unit and rather wobbly.

Yes, that would be the perfect solution, but given how long it's going to take to get the OMOD module, I've ordered a WC quick-back to go with my existing WC AB I/O set-up to power the camera. This should get me through the next few weeks. I could stay with this set-up and record audio to a Zoom. It's not ideal for the type of field work I do, plus its a pain to sync later in post. None of the RED solutions are ideal for me, otherwise I would just buy a RED module. I just need to know if the OMOD module will attach directly to my Scarlet W brain, or do I also need to purchase the I/O expander module to make everything work? I'm guessing I can run the WC quick-back attached to the OMOD for power. Make sense?

Yes, and yes.

Yes, the OMOD module attaches directly to Scarlet Brain. But you're right, it is not available yet, so your solution makes a lot of sense.
cheers
